It is. And then you look at how cheaply the BoSox got Victor Martinez (one of the best offensive catchers in the game right now) and it makes me ill.
5.5 million, 7 million in 2010.
We can't afford that? Because we're talking about paying Chris Snyder around the same coin for a fraction of the talent.
Justin Masterson, Nick Hagadone, and Bryan Price were traded for him. High grade, but not superb prospects.
The Jays have been doing it backwards for a long time now. Refusing to pay overslot = poor players and a weak system. Suddenly a player like Martinez comes on the market and only a couple of teams are in the running = they acquire a very good player for a cheap price.
Worst part is, it works out to about 2-3 games of paying Vernon Wells to make up the difference in Cash the BoSox shelled out to these players.

According to MLBrumors.com, the trade has been nicked for now.

SUNDAY, 3:25pm: The Toronto Blue Jays called off the swap because of concerns about Snyder's surgically repaired back, according to Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic.

TSN's take on Scutaro. Personally i agree 100% with it. One a one year deal I would take Scutaro but on a multi year bigger money deal that quite frankily he's probably earned, I would fear that coming back to bite the jays. I know they don't have an answer there, but I thought could find a replacement, Orlando Cabrera for example, and a one year deal.

Here's a couple more rumors:
Lyle Overbay:
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/1...eway-deal.html
A very interesting idea is being reported by Ken Rosenthal: a three-way deal, with Milton Bradley going to the Blue Jays, Luis Castillo to the Cubs, and Lyle Overbay to the Mets. Rosenthal said "The teams indeed have discussed the framework of such a deal, though not in direct fashion, according to major-league sources."
Roy Halladay:
http://fullcount.weei.com/sports/bos...alladays-list/
Meanwhile, WEEI.com's Rob Bradford reports that Roy Halladay has identified the Red Sox as a team he'd be willing to accept a trade to. Doc has a full no-trade clause.

I'd like to see Milton on the Jays. Headcase or not, getting players who show passion and aggression is something I'd like to see with the Jays. I find it hard to believe that Overbay would be the cost without the Jays shedding additional salary somehow to get him.
As for Halladay, damn I'd hate to see him going to the Sox. I guess it's better than going to the Yanks, but the Sox better give up their farm to get him.

"TORONTO -- General manager Alex Anthopoulos continued his reorganization of the Blue Jays' scouting department on Thursday, adding a handful of scouts to a rapidly growing staff. "
I like this move, this is the area the Jays need to focus on. In the article it states the Jays have increased their Scouts from 14 to approximately 25.
This is important due to the amount of picks the Jays are going to have this year.

Hopefully they make a committment to signing the players they do draft. As expensive as it can be to pay unproven kids who bust out overslot...it's still a lot less money than what can end up being wasted on buying out one BJ Ryan. At least when you do hit, the reward makes it well worth it.

Meh, I can't see how he helps the team on the field, so it gets a who cares from me.
More importantly now is the rumor that Boston is now going to start negotiating with the Jays for Halladay. For the life of me, so far NONE of the rumors of possible players from any team coming to the Jays have been interesting whatsoever. If I have a choice, if he's dealt to LA, he better be dealt for nothing short of Kershaw.

If we still had Arnsberg as our pitching coach I'd be fine taking Billingsley+ from the Dodgers, unfortunately I have no faith in the new coaching staff to adequately work out his inconsistencies and turn him into the stud he could be.
I think you gotta try and get Kernshaw.
Also, sending him to the Red Sox is a death sentence for the Jays playoff hopes in the next 5-6 years. Send him to the NL and get him away from direct competition.

That's another thing, I personally believe Roy has enough loyalty that he understands that if a team is going to trade for him they're going to give up prospects, and he'll likely sign long term with them out of that loyalty. Trading with the Sox, or anyone they see regularly in the AL would mean they'd face the guy probably 5 times that year. I wouldn't do it. Buckholtz from what I've seen, isn't that worthy of a prospect to be a centerpiece of a deal.

Jays are probably not gonna make the playoffs for at least that long no matter where Holliday goes. So I think it hardly matters.

You take the best deal player wise no matter who you trade him to. The Jays need to worry more about how to become a good team, and less about what Boston and the Yankees are doing.
Tampa proved if you put a good team together you can beat those teams.

The jays are going to suck till at least 2012 if not 2014. They could trade Halladay to any team and it won't make a bit of difference. What matters is getting the right players in order to rebuild the system.
The jays have quite a few pitching prospects (no ace calibre ones though) and a few good young guys in certain other positions (Hill, Lind, Snyder).
However, the Jays have no 3rd base prospects, no SS prospects, no 1st base prospects, no catching prospects, and no outfield prospects. Cooper, Ahrens, Arencibia and basically all the other guys in those positions are going to be no better than stop gap type players if they even make it to the big leagues.
They need to focus on either acquiring those types by trading off the key pieces (Overbay/Halladay/Wells) and through the draft.
The Jays need to win only 50 games this season and get a top 3 pick in order to get a good player hopefully and focus on taking the players with the highest ceilings, not the most MLB ready as they're going to suck for a while so it really doesn't matter.

Agreed, Halladay would probably sign with the Yank's or the RedSox next year anyhow... why would it matter where he is traded. Just get the best possible package and hope a bidding war starts.

"The Blue Jays signed Alex Gonzalez to a one-year deal, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. ".
If this signing is true Alex Gonzalez and John MacDonald will be the short stops for next season...
