the deal runs everyday of the week, but the offer changes once a week, i think on fridays.

and agreed on the produce looking poor, but it does depend on when you go. If you go in the evening on a weeknight, everybody is trying to cram in their shopping after work so it sucks, but early in the morning on saturday is usually the best time to go.

Safeway and Coop is still damn expensive, usually, if i want fancy vegetables, I usually make the trip to the farmers market and get some of those magic tomatoes they have over there.

One of the main reasons I shop at Sobey's is for their Ground Bison.

We haven't bought ground beef in years.

In my first year of university I bought a flat of TNT beer without ever trying it before. Worst purchase ever. It's a "shotgun only" beer.

I've never had issues with the meat there as a frequent shopper. Is it possible the meat stays in the fridge too long? (2 days is too long for me) or undercooked? cross contamination while cooking?

The opportunity for food poisoning is most likely to happen in the home.

I've been eating their meat for over a decade, no problems.

I'm a little disappointed they've dropped to 0.05 per litre on their gas reward.

Ken's from Winnipeg. I don't think he has a fridge.

Safeway (at least in the NE) was running a receive 100 airmiles for spending $100, and for a while is was 150 Airmiles for spending $100. 150 airmiles is worth 18 bucks or more. If only other stores gave out Airmiles like Safeway does.

Calgary Co-op has the cheapest gas, If you can wait to the end of the year to get your money back. 3 cents a litre towards groceries, then 8-10 more cents per litre towards your dividends, and after a ear or two, you get 60-70% of that back, as a cheque at the end of the year. That percentage just goes up the longer you've been a member.

I work in the plant that supplies Superstore, Sobeys, Costco with their meat, and have worked in the plant that supplies Safeway with their meat. Meat goes on the floor all the time, and is returned to the line without being properly reconditioned. Most people would probably be alarmed to find out that it is standard policy to cut off the part that was touching the floor, or just washing it with water as a standard (and CFIA approved) reconditioning process. This might seem pretty bad, but in reality it has been happening since meat plants have been in existence and we aren't all dead yet. Cook your meat, especially ground product.

There is virtually no difference in the meat supplied to any of those places, either. The only difference in the final product is what happens in the store itself.
