Pretty neat but I have no use for it. I prefer the computer to a real desk because it keeps thing organized and in folders in specific places.

Bumptop is for you if you are one of those people who keeps EVERYTHING on their desktop.

Alright it's been out for a while and while I'm still a skeptic, I've seen a few more videos of well organized bumptop desktops that have me a little more interested.

So you guys that installed it, is it still installed? What are your impressions?

For those who have tried it, how resource intensive is it?

I briefly tried it out on one of the machines here at work, certainly not a high end station and it didn't seem to slow anything down. I didn't have a ton of proggies open though.

I'm biased because I've been beta testing it for a year and a half now. But I personally love it and can't live with out it. (Let it be known that I was super skeptical about it when it first came out. Like many I thought it was all glam and no substance)

For me the piling and thumbnail preview is a god send. In my line of work (graphic design and web site development) I seem to be downloading dozens of files a day to my desktop. Stockphotos, Adobe Brushes, WordPress Plugins, Invoices, etc., Being able to preview and clump them together is a time saver. Throwing files into a pile and placing it in the corner of my desktop until I want to address them is great and keeps me focused on the project at hand.

Bump (heh, see what I did there?)

http://bumptop.com/

Bumptop has been acquired by google and will no longer be for sale. You've got a week to download it and try it before it goes away.

I gave it a whirl a few months ago when the mac version came out. Like many have said it's an innovative idea and I give them applause for doing it, but it just didn't work out for me. I think it would work great if your desktop was a main battlefield for your workflow. For me I have a program set up the automatically move things off my desktop and into certain folders. I like my current system too much to adapt to something else.

The llama might be right though ... this could just be something that's ahead of its time. It seems much more suited for a touch interface. Is google still working on the wePad tablet or was that just a rumor? I would wonder if the purchase of BumpTop is related?

In case you guys are wondering at all, Bumptop just got purchased by Google.

http://mashable.com/2010/05/02/google-bumptop/

Pretty sweet that a Calgary boy gets bought out by Google. Anyways, this has huge, huge implications for touch interfaces and the race between Google and Apple.

Techcrunch is speculating that Google bought this because its possible they want to start using it for Android and a few other things.

I figured I'd download it while I could. I didn't install it yet though. After watching this video, I might not. Much like the late Courier, it looks awesome, but I don't know if I'm the target audience.
