I did the term paper because I thought it was amazing that everyone involved with her was tortured and executed except for her husband who died in battle, but she was walled into her prison and lived for 3 years and the legend said that she was still incredibly gorgeous.

She was sick and depraved and sadistic and she didn't do it for power, she did it for pure pleasure, she was a child of her own id.

I also did a paper on Vlad Tempest and the heads of the Spanish inquisition. My teachers thought I was too enamored with evil when I was in high school.

While I'm not sure of the exact book he is referring to, it more than likely has to do with H.H. Holmes, a serial killer in Chicago at the end of the 1800's

Herman Webster Mudgett aka Dr. H. H. Holmes: a serial killer who used the fair to lure his victims to their death. Dr. Holmes had built his "World's Fair Hotel" complete with a gas chamber, dissection table and a crematorium to dispose of the bodies. Holmes would remove the skeletons of his victims and sell them for medical and scientific study.

There is a very good non fiction book about him and the entire 1893 Chicago World's Fair called "The Devil in the White City" by Erik Larson, and supposedly they are working on a movie adaptation.
There is also a fictionalized version that apparently is fairly fact based, "The Scarlet Mansion" by Allan W. Eckert.
