Madman's gif says it all. While the XM birds stay above the equator, the Sirius ones appear to to a figure 8. So that means that anything with a greater than 30 degree from level hight will block XM, Sirius at it's lowest point to us is over Minnesota. So closer to 60 or 70 degrees is needed to block the signal.

But regarding the bankrupcy, I guess I'm glad I'm only month to month. However I think this might be a move to get rid of huge salaries (like Stern.) A bankrupcy order will allow them to continue a lower cost operation like providing music and comedy. It might even allow them to sell one or two of their satellite; because do they really need 5 up there now?

To be honest, their problem isn't paying a guy like stern a lot of money, he brought a lot of subscribers. If Stern wasn't on satelite I'd never ever listen, their music programming is terrible. They got rid of the punk channel, so there's no need for me to even listen to their music anymore, (yes I know faction plays punk, but they mix in rap and other crap with very mediocre punk music).

Their problem is they paid people like Martha Stewart, Jamie Foxx, and Oprah a TON of money, and they provide very little content for what they are being paid, and I don't think anybody signed up to listen to their channels.

I think some people signed up for the provider they chose because of those people. It was a way for one service to differentiate itself from its competitor. But that's no longer the case so there's no need to pay out big time for big names. Either people want to get satellite radio or they don't. There's no real choice these days.

Mine even works in my garage, the once and only time it cut out was in a bad thunderstorm and that only lasted a minute or 2. mine is one of those little factory bubble antenna's on the roof.

but siriusly ( ) I own 3 sirius radios, and pretty much everyone up here has a sirius radio in their vehicle, as like i said there is nothing else. At least I have a good selection of cd's to fall back on if they go under, but most people I know here rely heavily on their sirius.

I have both an XM and Sirius subscription. Since the US merger, however, they've added even more overhead by adding DJs to many of the music channels. Why? I don't want drivel between songs, just play the songs and post the playlists online so I can look up a song if I want to.

Hopefully Sirius/XM can get their financial house in order. Can't imagine being without it.

There are terrestrial FM repeaters in major cities for those times you go behind a building or in your garage and can't reach the satellites - for XM at least there are.

Agreed. I don't enjoy Liquid Metal as much as I liked Hard Attack but I don't know what I would do without my metal.

In small town southern BC satellite radio is 99.9% necessary as well. I had to send mine back for repair and I had thoughts of slitting my wrists after 3 days of the terrible NDP-biased AM station, the crappy penticton country/religious programming station and worst of all-CBC radio...

That would explain it, I often wondered how on earth I could get a signal inside of the garage.

Yeah, if you go into your settings to check your signal strength with the satellite, there should be a indicator there that shows you how strong of a signal you're getting from the ground repeater.

yea, I liked hard attack better. I was pissed at first about losing buzzsaw, but Boneyard is growing on me, although they do have some weird crap on at times.
