Can you create a software to fix the nv4_disp infinite loop error? I'd be more than happy to purchase that!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll give it a look if I have a chance.

For CD/DVD question, it's often more a question of long term archives, plus I don't know what the longevity of a USB key is. A blank DVD is still cheaper than a USB key.

Flash solid state has a bigger problem of being unstable in more situations. ie every time you read/write your data you could (potentially) corrupt your data if you remove your flash drive. This is even more prone to happen if you are an unskilled computer user like your software appears to be targeting.

Given the fact that the nature of the software is to prevent these things from happening and that it seems to be normal to use DVD/CD as a backup medium, I find it odd that it is not included.

Now this doesn't mean you don't have the ability to burn the files to disc seperately, but it does add that extra step that may just put it out of reach for the market you seem to be targetting.

I have never directed output to a CD/DVD in any program, so I really have no idea what it takes or if it is a viable alternative for this project? Does it take a proprietary library? Just a huge time sink? This has me interested now.

CD/DVD writing requires some more low level programming that is not something I am well not versed in. There are controls out there to do this sort of thing, but this is a small project that I did more so for fun than anything else, and I already dropped some bucks on a compression/archiving control as well as a few other things.

USB drives can cause problems, but in most cases, removing the drive properly will allow any writing to finish and corruption will not happen. Yes, it can, but as of Windows 7, plugging in and removing devices like a flash drive is even easier for the most novice of users. You can pick up 4 GB USB drives for $20 these days. Seems silly to me to archive data on CD or DVD and wait for the slow writing and possible issues with scratches, etc.

Edit: Here's an 8GB drive for $22.95: http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/prodde...12&catid=20244

Yeah, but thats still 100x more expensive than a DVD.

Regardless, the software looks like it is simple enough to do what people need without a complex interface.

I say good work.

An easy compromise would be to generate backup files in the sizes of common media, and then the person could burn the files themselves.

Of course then you'd have to program a way to restore them

Thanks Rathji. It was fun to do. Planning on a few more easy to use utilities in the next little while as well.

Photon - Yeah, that might be an option. Let me think on it.
