As an Albertan, I think its crazy how attached we are to our 'right' to the oil and gas found in Alberta, w/ all its revenues being ours. Seems like we're the ones milking the super-sweet deal of full control over our resources. We're a 'have' province all right, we 'have' a ton of petroleum reserves to sell.
I guess it enriches us and makes this place pretty sweet, so I'm not complaining, hell I'm employed by Oil and Gas. I just don't think we deserve its entire benefits as much as we think we do. Whatever, keep bringing in the money, I'm staying!

I think we do not benefit solely from the oil and gas, the feds do get a crapload of bucks from it.
Until we have no provincial governments then I think this is the best way. If we were to split everything even steven on the revenue side yet each government was allowed to spend willynilly then the province generating the revenue gets the shaft, Quebec and/or BC have more generaous social programs for their citizens why should we equally bear the burden of that. [/b][/quote]
Yeah, I guess fiscal responsibility is an 'assumed' that is apparently not true. Too bad some of those governments can't get their balance sheets in order! If this resource helps Newfoundland show a profit, I don't know why the Feds don't let them have it. The Fed's seem to be doing ok anyway, I think they're running surpluses easily (no?).

their economy seems to be picking up, aquaculture and offshore oil mean that the st. john's u-haul franchise will finally get some trucks back.
it'd be a shame to lose them now, someone's got to help us pay for quebec. if newfoundland left and quebec left, where would we get the strippers we need?

whoa whoa whoa! I got a newfie joke!
Okay there is this newfie working at a factory in newfoundland, when he cuts off his fingers on a bandsaw. He goes to the doctor and says, " Doc, I cut off my fingers working at the factory," the doc replies " Why didnt you bring me the fingers? with all the technology we have these days I could have sewn them back on!" The newfie replies " Well how the **** was I supposed to pick them up!"
Okay, it may not be the best joke, but its the only newfie joke I know. Lol

being a Caper I know them all
Did you hear how the Cape Bretoners won the war between Cape Breton and Newfoundland? The Newfs would throw granades across the Gulf of St Lawerence, then the Capers would pull their pins and throw them back (booooo)
A Torontonian, a Montrealer, and a Newf all went over the the Holy Land for Christmas. When they got there they went to a bar and saw a lonely man drinking just a glass of water at one of the tables. They asked if they could join him. After a bit of talking the lonely man said to the Canunks, you folks are the finest on earth... do you realize who I am? The trio looked at each other and shook their heads. The man replied "I'm Jesus and I can sure whatever is wrong with you buy touching you." Amazed the three just looked in shock. The Torontonian said "I haven't been able to walk without a limp since I was 15." The man touched his leg, and was suddenly healed, he was able to do jumping jacks, and run around the bar. The Montrealer said "I've had a nasty caugh, and haven't been able to breathe properly because of my smoking." Jesus put his hands on the Montrealers chest, and the Montrealer then took a nice deep breath, able to breathe as if no toxins let alone smoke ever got into his lungs. Then Jesus went to the Newf, at that moment the Newf stood up threw a chair at the savoir and said.....
GET AWAY FROM ME YOU ######ing bas**rd, SON OF A BITCH! I'M ON COMENSATION!!!
I'll post some more later

Seriously though, so you think the Liberals SHOULD pay equalization AND give oil revenues to Newfoundland? You are p*ssed they are trying to protect the public purse? Or the liberal bashing is just habitual and you really didn't think about the issue, you just did the red-neck thing and bashed without thought?

LMAO! Only a liberal could call Martin's actions "trying to protect the public purse"! Trying to rob the provinces blind is more like it.
It's a simple concept. Martin promised Nfld and NS 100% of their oil revenues. Martin is now trying to clawback over $1 billion of that, once again breaking an election promise.
Typical liberals. Promise everything, then screw eveyone. Martin = Chretien = Trudeau. Different a55hole, different decade, same lies, same theft.
Obviously Newfoundland shouldnt be on the equalization system permanently, but the "federal" government (and even in quotes stating that just doesnt feel right) should honour it's promises, and it should allow one of the poorest provinces in the country a chance to become self sufficient rather than lie, cheat and steal from it so Martin can pay off more of his liberal pigs lining up at the porkbarrel.
Once again, I will mention that Alberta was granted 100% of it's resources without facing any kind of clawbacks or caps on the equalization-type system that existed at the time. Any Albertan who opposes the Atlantic provinces fight for the same rights while enjoying the wealth we enjoy as a result is a hypocrite, imnsho.
