Q. How many astronauts can you fit in a K-Car?

A. 12. 2 in the front. 3 in the back, and 7 in the ash tray.

Jokes are a release. How soon is too soon really depends on how well you know someone. Maybe radio-guy doesn't know anyone well enough to tell that on air, though media tend to think of themselves as above the people anyway.

Co-Pilot to the Pilot: Are you headed home after this?

Pilot: Nah, I think that I'll just crash at the hotel!

Hmm....this reminds me of the thread when that helicopter crashed on top of some poor chaps head and some people thought it was funny (in the random sense) and others were offended that posters were joking about it

Except for the substitute teacher that was on board the shuttle. She had blue eyes...

No that was different, in that one the poster came out and basically said that the incident itself was funny, and that's what ticked some people off.

This is more a case of people making jokes. I know they sound like the same thing, but there's a difference. It's not like people are coming out and saying "hey did you hear about the guy who had his head cut off on the greyhound bus? Wasn't that funny? That's more or less what happened in the helicopter thread. It wasn't like the poster thought of a funny/tastless joke for people to laugh at, it was just 'hey isn't it funny that this happened?'

Sometimes when I come on Calgarypuck, I feel like I'm the only one who's going to hell, because people on here tend to be very politically correct and on the level. Doesn't anyone else on here ever sit around with friends and make brutally racist jokes, or jokes that would make Hitler cringe? (or make him smile when the Jewish jokes come out)

Not really.

I've got a pretty crazy sense of humour, and I'm often the one cracking people up... but I never get rude or insensitive or vulgar. I actually can't stand racist jokes, either. Not because of any sense of self-righteousness, just because they aren't funny. I mean, the incredibly obvious ones are usually funny, but not the ones that hit upon modern-day stereotypes.

I prefer to make fun of myself over making fun of others, in all honesty.

Bill Cosby, Robin Williams, Steven Wright and Jim Carey are more my style than Eddie Murphy, Dice Clay and... err... someone else like them.

x2. I've always wondered how I'm going to break my wife* into meeting my family. Well not meeting, but lasting to that point when we're all sitting around being ourselves (downright awful). We can be just evil sometimes. All in good fun!

Yeah...humor is a very natural way to deal with tragedy/shocking incidents like these.

When the Challenger exploded, it was live and in real time...hard for people to wrap their heads around such things and yes, the jokes flowed seemlessly soon after. I remember thinking somewhat the same way as the OP feels now...but then as a bit of time wore on, I realized it had nothing to do with lack of respect and everything to do with coping.

What did the school teacher say to her husband before she left?

"Honey you feed the dog, I'll feed the fish".

heard that one the day OF the disaster.

It's ajust a natural coping mechanism...no more and no less.

If anybody has ever seen "the aristocrats" there's a great scene with gilbert gottfried (i know, just stay with me). I believe it was the hugh hefner roast where he made a 9/11 joke. Didn't turn out too well for him, so he just decided to tell the most vulgar joke he could think of. He came out of it with a standing ovation.

A little OT I realize, it's just that this thread kind of reminds me of that for some reason.

That was hysterical. When the camera pans across the room you get to see the shocked expressions on everyone's face. I thought Hef was going to die then and there.

I was laughing my way to an early grave. Easily one of the funniest things I have ever seen, and regardless of how an outsider may perceive his career that moment cemented Gilbert Godfried as an absolute comedy legend.

As for the jokes, man, some of the things I have pulled off of this forum just thinking in my head "okay, thats too far someone is going to tear my head off for that," you people wouldnt believe.

I remember once making a 'funny' comment regarding one of the C-Train semi-suicides last year and it lasted all of 30 seconds before my PM inbox was flashing red and I edited it off.

And that Helicopter falling on someone thread wasnt nearly as bad as people make it out to be. Theres too many saints around here.

Now, I havent made any Greyhound jokes yet, but believe it or not I used to work there, and tomorrow a bunch of old friends I used to work there with are getting together to shoot it, I guarantee there'll be some gold in there.
