They are, but they mainly deal with professional groups, at least those are the groups that get the best rates and service.

They actually called me back when i was 21 and just graduated out of university. At first i thought it was those lame-0 telemarketers but after 15 minutes they saved me over $1500/year. They are better then Geico! haha

As well as SAIT. We have been with them for longer than I will admit, can't beat their prices and service.

Wow that is high premium, first of all your driving a Civic sorry but they are one of the worst rated vehicles because of two reasons: theft rates and the fact that everyone owns one. Vehicle rates are based off VRG's typically and it is statistics gathered on categories involving accident frequency, repairability, cost of parts, and some others. You'd probably pay less driving a newer Saab not too many people own those.
And yeah if you have more then one ticket and an accident history sorry but your premium jumps and it takes a few years to get out of the system.

you can just say you're an alumni and they'll sign you up. i tried to go through TD Insurance in May when my car was due and the lady asked where i went to school. i said i graduated from SAIT in 04 and she sent me to Meloche Monnex, but i didn't have to submit any proof
frigging amazing difference, they quoted me over $600 lower than my existing insurance co. i'm never switching

Try one of those online quote search thingys. I think the one I used was
kanetix.com
or something like that. Gave me 20+ quotes, I went with the cheapest. Also make sure to inquire about rental/homeowner's insurance if that applies, because if you use the same insurance company you might get a lower rate.

+4 for Meloche Monnex, they've been nothing but awesome for me. I have pretty much full and I pay 1200 per year. I had one accident three years ago that was totally my fault, and it didn't increase my rate by much because as my agent told me everyone gets one.
Last summer I was rear ended in a major wreck by an idiot in a cellphone. They cleared my claim and I had a check for my car within a week.
They've been nothing but great. But I've been with them for about 20 years.

The Top Ten Stolen Vehicles are: 1. 2000 Honda Civic SiR 2-door
2. 1999 Honda Civic SiR 2-door
3. 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX/WRX STi 4-door AWD
4. 1999 Acura Integra 2-door
5. 1994 Honda Civic Si 2-door Hatchback
6. 1998 Acura Integra 2-door
7. 1993 Dodge Shadow Convertible
8. 1996 Honda Civic Si 2-door Hatchback
9. 2000 Audi TT Quattro 2-door Coupe
10. 1996 Chev/GMC Blazer/Jimmy S Series 2-door 4WD
Once again, none of the vehicles making the top ten most frequently stolen vehicles list had an Insurance Bureau of Canada-approved immobilizer system.
Wow! are your theft stats from 10 years ago? Maybe a 1998 Honda Civic is the most stolen car in the world but not the newer ones. You are right about everyone owning one though. It's the number one selling car in Canada for the past 11 years and is now the top selling vehicle in Canada this year.
I only pay $745/year fully insured for my 2006 Civic hybrid.
There is reason you don't see any saabs on the road. hehe
Not sure about other insurance companies now but I really like that Meloche covers the insurance on your rental vehicles also.

For Meloche Monnex what does UofC alumni mean, just a member of the school/graduated, right?
I'm 18 and I am over a year now with my car, no accidents, but I pay like $250 a month? '06 Cobalt. When does the insurance go down? Little by little until 25 when it should drop more, dramatically?
Sorry I didn't help the Original Poster.

Meloche Monnex also offers other things. They have a Grand Touring package that costs $25 a year and it covers you for hit and run and other things out of your control. They also reduce your deductible by $25 for every year of non claim. If you do make a claim, I believe that starts over from square one though, not sure, have not submitted a claim in eons.

The reason why you didn't need to send in any proof is because Insurance is an utmost good faith business. Meaning if you lied on anything material when you take out a policy it becomes null and void when you have a claim. Should you have large claim, the insurance company will research those things to try to minimize their losses. The reason why it's material is because post-secondary graduates and professionals are lumped into groups and their actuarials model the groups claim histories and forecasted claims and end up with a price based on the attributes of those groups of people.
Checking to make sure you actually are a graduate or a professional is the easiest thing an investigator or adjuster can do. Meaning that for even relatively small claims they can easily deny you and void the policy. If you lie about it all you're really paying your premiums for is insurance against a ticket from the cops for being an uninsured motorist should they pull you over, but not for any of the real reasons you have insurance.

Well said. Think it might help if we get Esteban to teach him how to play guitar!?

Thanks guys for the recommendations. I should add something, I am still a GDL driver so I have very few demerits. Those speeding tickets probably are hurting me more than I thought. My broker was supposed to call back but I haven't heard which means something isn't right. Or maybe thats my insurance company saying go find another company.
Basically I can't afford to pay that much for insurance and I can't just stop going to work. I can't really sell my car either as I got 215ks on it so that would be another losing money endevour.
I don't use my car for business purposes, just to get to work. Before work I will try a bunch of places out I'll let you guys know happens. Thanks

Wow, you drive 185 km just to get to work? That's nuts! I can't even imagine driving anything over 20 km per day to work. You drive more in one day than I do an entire week.

Its all highway and I've actually grown quite fond of it. Just sit back and relax, listen to music. Its a good way to de-stress and just think about stuff cause you can't really do much else anyways. Some days in winter do suck the big one.
Anyways.....I've switched to Meloche Monnex after a pretty intense interrogation. Man I feel like a criminal asking for insurance now . I got my car and quad both insured for 714 the down payment then 355 each month afterward so I guess thats okay. As long as those speeding tickets were when I said they were, I can't really remember so I told the agent as best I could. Thanks guys I though i was fudged!
