I wasn't very impressed with Barker's quick dismissal and the media-friendly hiring of Dunigan to be everything...

I think this is the best move possible, and lets hope both Barker and Dunigan have a job in this organization when its all said and done.

Michael Petrie was just on Global Sports, saying Ted Hellard, John Forzani, Dave Sapunjis and some oilmen are involved...going over the due dilligence now.

Apparently Ron Rooke and Matt Dunigan's severence was a hot topic during the negotiations, so looks like it might be the end of them...
Petrie was on The Fan earlier today. It was while I was working so I only caught a very small part of it, but he did say he wouldn't be surprised if Denny Creehan was the only coach brought back.

From what I heard up here in Edmonton, both Rooke and Dunigan will be gone. Stan Schwartz will get Rooke's job, while Higgins is the GM, and Denny Creehan will become the head coach. Here in Edmonton they have only mentioned Barker in the paper, I haven't heard anything else about him.

Creehan info from stampeders website:

Jim Barker should be brought back to the Stamps he should have never been fired, if he is not brought in as the head coach he should be the offensive coordinator.

So, after finishing finals, thought I'd check if there were any new updates on the sale front?
I really do hope this happends, then throw Barker as VP of Player Personel. That's my twist on it......
Creehan as a HC and Higgins as GM would be a sweet combo.

Only update is there are no updates. If you want to join more lively stamps talk and speculation, there is a Stamps dedicated message board (although it's a little slow this time of year) *dont ban me mods*

I think hiring Higgins as HC and/or GM would be a great move. I like his gambling nature and think that the fake punt was a good call that was poorly executed.

I think you have to keep Creehan as DC and that Higgins would probably have no problem with that based on his success last year but would prefer to allow Higgins to chose his own coaches at the other positions.

Barker would be a guy I would like to see back in some role as well.

You know, prior to the western final Higgins had a reputation as being super-conservative. He'd get booed all the time in commonwealth for punting in 3rd and 1 circumstances. He's the quintessential field-position coach. And I'd guess that following last year's west final, he'll gamble even less in coming seasons. It's just funny that he's earned a reputation as a 'gambler' based on a single botched play.

I remember him gambling in other situations so thought that he was a gambler. That probably was because you remember the gambles much more than the punts. And the fact that I was use to the ultra-conservative Wally Buono.

Agreed. That's one thing I loved about Barker, coming in and gambling on third-and-goal from the one in overtime in his first game. Gutsy call, showed a lot of confidence in the team, even if it didn't work.

Ya I really liked that call by Barker. OT, at home against a better team.

If he would have been successful it would have set a good tone for the whole rest of the season. Even though they didn't make it I think it sent a message to the team that Barker wanted to win and would do whatever was needed.

News today is that a local RV bigwig met Feterik on New Years Eve down in california for a couple hours.

Thus, another group in the picture...the Forzani group is expected to give further word in the next few days.

They were talking about this on The Big Show today. I didn't catch the start of it though so I missed the dude's name. Apparently he is quite interested in acquiring the team though.

Just saw on Global Sports - the guy's name is Bruce Urban...had a passionate interview with Grant Pollack. Seems slicker than Fateri and Ryckman combined. Unsure of the state of the current offer, but was openly wondering where the state of it is, and was optimistic for himself since Feterik was having a meeting with him on New Years.

The guy gave me the willies

Also all over Global sports. This guy seems seriously clueless and I'm guessing undercapitalized.

The guy says something to the effect of "I'm in a business where it's a buy or no buy" with respect to how the other offer is dragging. Buying a distressed football team is a little more complicated than that Bruce.

Perhaps it's was the black "western style" suit (with white stitching) but they guy did not seem to be the guy to make this a respectable franchise.

Seems like Global Sports hype over nothing.

EDIT: For clarity

Heard it myself on QR with Mark Stephen just around 5pm.

Here's Slick Rick's website. http://www.westernrvcountry.com/about.htm

Didn't see Global, but these pics say it all.

Yeesh. Hopefully this dude is looking for some free media promo and will ride into the sunset after his 15 minutes are up.

Look at it this way, now it will take longer.

Even if there is no price war,

But the team can't do any thing "like sign players" till this is done.

nope, there is a pending deal. Until the deal either is finalized or falls apart the other potential owners can not discuss any price. As per the story there is a letter of confidential signed by both parties. In my view the Stamps owners is just trying to put the screws to the group to either make them finalize or get out.
