One thing to know if you plan on skiing or riding with your shades:

I got the following info from a guy and girl who work at spare parts. Apparently polarized lenses are not recommended for skiing. Although they reduce glare, the tradeoff is less perception of detail (eg snow texture) on the ski hill. "So why do they make polarized goggles?" I asked. Well they are meant only for the half pipe, where everything is smooth.

I buy only polarized lenses now, but will not use my shades on the ski hill (they're too expensive to risk anyways).

I sold ski gear for 5 years and I have talked about this with the Oakly and Smith reps. Sure you might get the occasional bit of flat light but you get that w/o polarized lenses as well. The glare that it reduces not only makes it view nicer when you are skiing it is much better for your eyes, especially on those very sunny days.
