Supposed to be turned into more of a lounge and upper end cliente. Lounge and event center is what I caught on the radio.

Good for Cowboys to move. Hopefully the renovations make it a better layout then the old Coyotes/Desperados/Dustys which was a disaster with the front door so close to both a bar and the dance floor. I'll still only go there a few times during Stampede and probably 3 other times during the year like the old Cowboys, but always a good time.

And anyone who was there the first Stampede when it opended as Desperado's circa 2001 knows how massive that they can make the tent for Stampede out back...some good concerts there that Stampede, and fully expect his a big reason why Vickers would want this location, where he makes his year on those 10 days.

As for residents moving in to that tower and the twin one they've dug the hole for next, I think drunken bar folk a couple nights a week would be better (and drive out) the cracked out hookers and "clientele" that would be stumbling around there otherwise nightly.

I think that attitude is in direct positive correlation to pretentiousness of the poster. In reality the people condeming would probably condemn many other places under different names that play different music (of course as long as its not the music/crowd of their liking ). This is really a case of different strokes for different folks. In Calgary, Cowboys is the premier club/bar as far as patronage, noteriety, and most likely dollars raked in due to corporate stampede parties. That in of itself has created a counter-culture of hatred towards it specifically from people who don't really find that place to be their scene. Fair enough. If you like top 40 music mixed in with a little line-dancing country and don't mind a typically 18-30 "Abercrombie and Fitchlike" crowd then by all means go to Cowboys, you won't have a bad time.

From what I understand going to Calgary and not drinking at Cowboys is like going to Montreal and not drinking at Club Super Sexe. It's just got to be done!

To answer the question about people living in the new condo tower, yup a bunch of us have been here since at least mid-December. I've been in my unit since early January, Coyotes was still open for about a month at that time. Anyone here in arriva that complains about it doesn't have a leg to stand on, the entire time this project was being sold it was pretty obvious there was a bar across the street.

When I came home the Coyotes sign was covered up and the announcements board was displaying this as the new home of Cowboys, "the legend continues".

This pretty much makes it official that I will not get any sleep or rest during the entire duration of the Stampede! I can't wait!

Oh and on a hockey related note, walking to the games is the best.

Man am I ever lame. I never went to Club Super Sexe when I went to Montreal, and I never went to Cowboys even though I've lived in Calgary all my life. At least, I don't recall ever going there. Drove by it a few thousand times... Does that count?

Too small and not the best location. I remember going to Cowboys on cheap draft night back in the day. I do not miss that place one bit. It gets way too crowded with superficial people.

Club Super Sexe is yesterday's news, it's all about "Super Contact" now!

oh at no point do I say that Super Sexe is the best strip club, just the iconic one. Everyone knows the best Strip Clubs are the ones run by the Hells Angels or Rocque Machine on some back alley down closer to St-Catherine and Lt-Laurent . . . I mean, ummmmmm, hey look a distraction

Back on topic:

going to Sydney and not going to Smooth Herman's
going to Miramichi and not going to the Opera House
going to Toronto and not seeing the CN Tower
going to Regina and not seeing Saskatoon
going to Vancouver and not going to Stanley Park Pitch and Putt and watching the Canucks play

Vickers is trying to make the best with what he has, converting a bar he already owns into 'The New Cowboys'. Two things about this:

-I doubt that he will be able to have a big beer garden area in the back, nothing like Cowboys had in the parking lot anyways. Even the beer tent area Desperados had a few years back wasn't approved, as CN didn't want to rent them the land.
-This is going to make what can already be a gong show getting out of parking after a Flames game even worse because of all the various stuff going on outslde. There were issues enough when it was Coyotes.
-With it being smaller, and with PLE selling VIP passes and such to people, will people just lining up even be able to get in during Stampede without giving a 'contribution' equal to the July steroid bill for the guy @ the door?

Cowboys didn't suck because it was full of the hopelessly self-infatuated (although that didn't help), it sucked because it was so freakin' ORDINARY and unworthy of being some kind of Calgary icon.

What exactly could you point to in that place and say, "Wow, that hasn't been done somewhere else - and better." That's why this announcement gets a big "whatever" from most people; the place was all hype, no delivery. Doubt this new one'll be different.

Well the creative ways the shooter girls would administer the shots was pretty unique for a standard nightclub, even when regular clubs in Montreal started doing it people there made a big deal even though it had been going on at Cowboys for years. Calgary's great because all the knock-off Cowboys bars do it too, so we are spoiled with shooter girls.

Meh, they were doing that in Vegas in the 80's. And the girls were your QUALITY silicone - dirty, not just slutty.

Cowboys was awesome...the best thing about it was they never let in any minorities, so there were never any fights there, it was just a nice fun time.

It would make sense that they put Cowboys right by Stampede Park. As for that being the dodgey side of downtown, well it may be now, but after the Stampede Group is done what they want to do and all the new condos and buildings get in there, I thinkit's going to be quite nice. It's already looking better than it was two years ago.

I was never a fan of Cowboys, but it is important to Calgary.

Does anyone know if this is a permanent location, or a temporary one? IE, will they be moving it back to the old location once the new buildings are done?

As well, they are going to have to do a LOT of renos on Coyotes if they want to put Cowboys there. Size for one, and well both bars were getting pretty dingy.

I remember my dad going a couple of years ago with some business friends. He didn't know what it was, so he ordered a glass of white wine (god only knows why...) Anyways, she responded by saying "sorry, we only have red and clear, but it comes in a box!"

He promptly left.

Cowboys isn't terrible if you can put up with power-hungry bouncers, ######bags running around trying to get laid by anything that will talk to them, completely overpriced pissbeer, and more silicone than you can possibly imagine.

Wait, that last part doesn't sound too bad! :P

Ha ha ha - that reminds me of a time when my dad and I were at a Humpty's in Swift Current, and he asked our waitress what the house red was. She had no idea what he meant, while I just facepalmed.
