Dr. Phil is a perfect example of how many people will only listen to somebody who they deem to be worthy of dispensing advice. I'd bet anything that every single person on that show has heard the exact same advice from countless others in their circle of friends and family. Years of helpful comments were probably thrown to the gutter, but the second that Cletus the slack-jawed yokel says the same thing it's treated as gospel.
People need to stop viewing this show as therapy and start viewing it as a reality show generated for entertainment purposes only. True therapy takes a hell of a lot more than a 15 minute sit down with a tv personality.
