I am not sure if it is on Canadian TV or not.
Honestly though, you want to watch it off DVD. The story arcs span many seasons in some cases... if you watched it week to week over a long time, you'd forget a lot of the details that makes it so interesting.
The Wire is great. It's a real good commentary on Urban America, and the institutions that play roles in it.

I just finished watching that whole series over the past few weeks, for the first time. I had never watched any of it before.
I agree that some parts of it were really true to life. The dynamics at play in the personal relationships were accurate and realistic. But, it seems all the characters had such troubles day to day. I never stress so much, or feel like my life situation is as bad as they felt is was. Am I just lucky? Do people really struggle over time like the 6 Feet Under characters do? Is it an average depiction of people?

If you guys can find a torrent for the Australian show Underbelly I highly suggest you download it.
It is based on a true story of the unravelling of the mob in Melbourne, and is currently banned from airing in Victoria because of ongoing court proceedings.
If you like the Sopranos, you'll love this show. It's only 12 or 16 episodes I think, highly entertaining and very realistic since it is all based on actual events.

I second this and second that The Wire is the most realistic cops/crime centric show.
If you can find The Wire at Blockbuster or something, it's definitely the way to go, you will not want to stop watching it once it hooks you.

That's true for seasons 1-4, but I think season 5 had a few happy endings.
*** Spoilers follow ***
Bubs got a well-deserved triumph, finally kicking his heroin addiction and reconciling with his sister.
Pearlman was made a judge.
Carcetti was elected governor, and he made Rawls the head of the state police force.
Carver was promoted to lieutenant and really seemed to get his act together over the years. Ditto for Prez, who went from being a huge screw-up of a cop to being an excellent inner-city school teacher.
Namond really turned his life around (through Bunny's help).
And finally, yes, McNulty was kicked off the police force, but that's probably the best thing that could have happened to him. He seemed to have patched things up with Beadie at the end.

^Saddest thing though is that out of the 4 kids that were introduced only one "made it"....that was the harshest part of the ending.

but none of those are really you're typical "happy ending" that you see in other tv shows/movies. Bubbles ending is a lot less happy when you realize that a kid had to die for him to clean up his act (ditto for Prez and the cop he shot). Carcetti only became governor by breaking his mayoral campaign promises and shortchanging both the school and police by refusing to eat crow and take the state money to fix the deficit issues. Namond did escape the game and got a better life, but he had to abandon his family/friends to do it. and the rest seemed to just be the end result of a natural course of events
for those that did get a good ending, a lot of destruction had to happen for them to get it

Heh, every quick response of "the wire" made me think of this....
http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.wordpres...9/85-the-wire/
As an honest answer, "OZ" was about the realest fiction I'd ever seen.
God that opens me up to all sorts of burns. To fix, "OZ" was, as some of my friends who've spent some time in the legal system, pretty darn accurate.
