Do you work at the Sunridge location? Cause I'm thinkin' of going up to the NE and just hitting all the stores and harassing salespeople, and I'd hate to leave you out. I'm not interested in BUYING anything, I just want to annoy.

"Excuse me, I realize you're busy, but I'm not sure what kind of film I need for my digital camera."

"Hey buddy, you look like an expert, so I'll ask - can I use this computer to illegally download porn movies I can't get at the video store?"

"Do you have any new video games that'll work on a Windows 95 machine with 16 megs of RAM? No? How about Colecovision, they still make games for that?"

Wiis really seem hard to get. I'm opening up an online store right away. I easily got a shipment of 10-20 Wiis from a wholesaler in China. I'm just waiting for them. Too bad I screwed up and didn't do this a week earlier.

That sucks alltherage, especially since BestBuy employees don't make commission.

Regarding the questions about Wiis- perhaps putting up a sign would help.

Last week when I was helping my sister hunt one down, I had to ask several sales people, and they were quite willing to help. And then when my brother in law found one; it was by walking into a store and then asking- the Wiis were in the back and they were trying to qualify customers. ie- finding out if this was a personal purchase or if it was for re-sale.

And really- what kind of man considers December 20th "last minute" anyways. If it wasn't for shipping stuff across country I'd be starting my shopping on the 23rd.

alltherage,

Can you sneak me in the back of the store ahead of the crowd on Boxing Day? I'll buy you a coffee.

Also, will you have cheaper Wiis on Boxing Day?

Thanks!

This thread should be changed to "I work at ____, who wants employee discount?"

Are you sure you got Wiis and not Viis?

So before Christmas the staff at Best Buy is too busy to help customers? Makes sense. My question would be why they sit around with their thumbs up their butt the other 11 months of the year? Any time I have been to Best Buy I have to walk up to some person in the store and ask for help. Usually they are just standing there or are talking to their co-workers.

When I used to work in retail "Have a VERY Merry Christmas" was code for "F-you and burn in hell".

Whenever you heard a fellow worker say that phrase to a difficult customer, generally in quite a loud voice and with a sh-t eating grin it was good for a laugh and helped lighten the mood.

That's not true. There's usually that dude at the front of the store that welcomes you to Best Buy and then thanks you for coming when you leave. I've never really seen that person do anything else but if that's all his job requires, he's employee of the year.

alltherage, you haven't experienced Christmas mayhem until you've worked at Greyhound package express through the holiday season. You've never seen a more miserable bunch of people in your life.

One Christmas Eve, we're working our asses off, trying to get everyone's stuff out to them. It clearly is stated that we close at 5pm. People are hammering on the door, demanding to be let in. Hey, we want to get home to our families as well. Don't blame me if you didn't get here on time. That job ruined Christmas for me for a very long time.

Agree. I got a Wii a couple months ago at Super Store. None were on display but about 5 or 6 were in the back. Likewise when I got Guitar Hero 3 for the Wii from Walmart. There's no way you'd get one without asking.

I think he's checking you out when you leave to make sure you didn't steal anything.

That's been my experience as well. I don't know if I prefer it to the Future Shop dweebs that you can't walk five feet without getting asked if you need help. The only help I need from those losers is that they get out of my freaking way!

Having to work the holiday season accounts for close to 90% of the reason why I no longer work retail (making more money, the prestige of a real career, reasonable hours, and being able to pick up girls in retail without worrying about losing my job cover the other 10%).

I used to work at Blockbuster Video. It was awesome: I remember on like Dec. 28 one year there were literally almost NO movies left on the shelves to rent. People were pouring through the doors: "What should we rent?" "I don't know, so let's rent 20 movies and decide later!" Felt bad for the poor bast*rds who came in looking for movies later on... "What should we rent? 'Fiddler on the Roof' or 'Lawnmower Man 2'?"

Funny, the year I last worked for BBV was the year the PS2 came out - and it was kind of the same thing as the Wii. Everyone wanted a PS2, but no one had any. People would call, "So do you have any PS2s in stock?" "Sure!" I'd lie, "come on down!" And they'd come on down and I'd tell them the old lady who just rented Fiddler on the Roof got the last unit.

I can't believe noone has mentioned the music yet? Yes christmas music may be great for some in the small dose they get in the store. Try listening to the same CD over and over and over for 2 months (yes our Christmas music started on nov 1st). When I used to work at a Telus corporate store, we were not allowed to change the music and it was this weird kind of edgy new age christmas music..... i still hear it everytime I close my eyes

Excellent customer service. Why do people that work in this industry get so pissed off when someone asks for a Wii or PS3 or whatever the case is. Most likely you dont have it in but you never know. You may have just got a shipment in. So instead o getting pissed off. Do your job.
