Not the prettiest 4-2 win versus the Blues but we will take it.
Blues did a great job of keeping the shots down, as the Oilers usually average over 30 per game but tonight had a paltry 20. They really shut down our primary goal scorers, but thankfully our defensive defencemen Jackman and Rachunek and the so-called weakest link in our top six forwards, Andy Hilbert, got the job done on the scoresheet. Hilbert was named 1st star with a goal and an assist. And of course Martin Brodeur played very well, kicking aside 27 of 29 shots from the dangerous Blues.
Zetterberg and Lecavalier extended their point streaks, although Iginla was held off the scoresheet, snapping his four game goal scoring streak. Thankfully all the attention Iginla attracted freed up his linemate Hilbert to take advantage of more open ice. Hamrlik was quiet in his first game back from injury. It was only GM icarus's second game seeing Hamrlik hit the ice, and in the first one he was carried off in his first shift.
The Oilers will be expecting their players to hurl a lot more rubber at the net in the next three contests which come against the CPHL's best: the Bruins, followed by a home-and-home with the Thrashers. Will they be up to the task?
