such as...all of this just sounds so gimmicky. I could care less if people look at my licence plate and think "well there is a nice licence plate" (of course I would say it in my smart ass voice )

I'm with the crowd that likes the current plates. Red and White go with almost any car color. Look how ugly those green Sask plates look on a Red car. Uggh. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Add a 7th number/letter if necessary, make people replace ones that are 15+ years old and DON'T make us put them on the front!!

About the only improvement I can think of that the AB plate could use is a newer font, especially on the letters use to spell 'Alberta'. That 'A' screams 80s. I like my 80s on the radio in small doses, TYVM.

Put me in the crowd that won't mind the update...and wouldn't see the need, or waste of funds, to add the plate back to the front.
Police tool? The cop can't take a walk around to the back of the parked car? At driving speed, can you really pull plate numbers off the front of it?
In my opinion, the only reason is to see front plates again, is as a funding of the law enforcemnet indrectly by the government. Its a cash cow for law enforcement...its a $500K+ donation to law enforcement, what it would cost the province would be likely made up in 2 or 3 years worth of $50 fines that cops could now charge and collect.
Never really got the idea of where they came up with the orange/red color in particular, likely just in reponse to being as far away from black and yellow as one could be. And it was 1983...pastels were in.
Just doesn't make it too intricate with the design or coloring. ie Don't get Spawn comic book guy, of Oilers Flying bodily fluid jersey and Oilers 25th anniversary crest fame, to be comissioned to do it. Or the guy who hid all the rabbits in the Pilsner cans.
"Strong and Free", I could see that on there. Not quite as bold as New Hampshire's "Live free or die", but not as hokey as "Land of the Living Skies".
I like the idea of an option of getting themed plates too (such as the Tampa Bay Bucs one), although I guess those ones (say, Calgary Flames ones) may be an collectors item for any punk with a screwdriver. I noticed a BC car yesterday had some 2010 Olympic ones which looked sharp.

I like the New Hampshire motto. "Live Free or Die." That about sums it up for me!

Forget bringing back the front plate.. There was a reason its being phased out.. Money.. and its mostly unless and makes my firebird icky looking from the front..
The new plates should feature some alberta skyline items.. Like pumpjacks, oilsands trucks and the moutains..

I actually like what Ontario has done. Very simple graphics, and you can choose from a number of logos.

Manitoba doesn't have them either.

In most situations where a car is doing something that requires it to be identified, you aren't going to be able to get them by the front plate. Maybe an unsafe left turn in front of you is the one exception, not worth the huge price of double the plates though.

As long as they do a better job redesigning the license plates than they did with drivers licenses. I moved out to B.C. in '04 for a couple years when Alberta made that switch, I couldnt believe how fugly they were when I came back.
