Walmart and Futureshop sell most of their music under or at cost. They don't make money off it, they just get you into the store and hope you'll buy a TV while you're there too.

HMV and other record stores can not and will not ever be that cheap because if they were, they'd make no money.

Older CD's are more expensive, mainly because new CDs are sold without much profit. Old CD's are the only reason places like HMV stay in business.

You wouldn't believe how many times I've fallen for that ploy. You go in to quickly grab Justin Timberlake's latest masterpiece and before you know it, they've got you talked into a 19" Sharp TV with built-in VCR. Jokes on them though: I didn't get the extended warranty! Suckers.

Oh, alright. I'd just always wondered why. But that makes more sense.

Wait they want people to stop listening to Led Zeppelin?

That's music blasphemy!

Yeah any classic studio album was about $23 or more. Greatest hits and stuff were usually cheaper.

Why are people so surprised kids were listening to Led Zep and Pink Floyd instead of today's (mostly) crap pop hits? All of us listened to that stuff in our youth, whether we lived through the 70's or not. These record execs deserve to have their stuff downloaded if they are genuinely surprised that people prefer to listen to the music that has stood the test of time.
