Its pretty disgusting that people have to change their names cause someone with it was/is evil, but I guess that's the problem with living in a society... one has to deal with people, even the morons.

It won't be the first time North American society has forced a name change and it won't be the last...

How many people named "Adolf" changed their names to "Al" or "Andrew"?
How many people with the last name "Hitler" changed it to "Hittler" or changed it outright to avoid persecution...

Remember Berlin, Ontario? Sure you do, its now called Kitchener cause of those evil krauts in the 1910s... named after the British founder of the first concentration camp no less... charming.

How many Italians changed their first names from "Giuseppe," "Francesco", "Giovanni" to Joe, Frank and John to be more accepted as North Americans rather than a "bunch of wops"?

We as North Americans have a pretty disgusting history of this. Its too bad it looks like its gonna pollute another generation.

^ fotze has a pretty good first-hand account from a friend about having to change his name (which apparently was too Asian) on his resume just to get a call back for an interview.

Sadly, I don't see these things changing...

Land of the Free?? hahaha what a JOKE, the States are a joke. Anyways that's horrible and as someone who wants to teach I must say that's a complete embarassment and those teachers should lose their right to teach, now that would send out a very clear message to everyone else. On the topic of name changes I have a really hard to say name, and I always find that I don't get call backs because no one knows how to say my name and they don't want to offend me lol. My parents and 2 out of my 3 siblings have adopted easier names, I have yet to do that but I dont think I will. HECK screw everyone else it's who I am and just think if I changed my name how would people find me on FACEBOOK???

Why are the States a joke? Are Canadian teachers incapable of such insensitivity?

They sure are, but Canada is a very strong part of that punchline as well. If you think that kind of crap doesn't happen here, I have some oceanfront property in Saskatchewan for sale...

Well of course it's not like Canadian teachers couldn't do it I'd be an idiot to think that, but the States in general are making themselves look worse in every possible situation (obviously not all Americans because I do have family there).

Yes indeed Canada is, but I must say and you can disagree if you would like too but the States definitley IMO are worse.

I feel bad for this kid like the rest of you, and if the teachers did all this then that's really pathetic, but I would want to see some sort of confirmation of all this stuff actually happening. For example, no matter how stupid a teacher may be, I don't think they would be dumb enought o say to a kid "One of the teachers told him not to bother to come to class because no matter what he did he's not gonna pass'" based on the kids first name. I could see it being said by some teachers to students as a joke, based on their relationship, but i cant imagine a teacher going that far based on a first name.
Before you all jump on me, my point is this:
Kids can say a lot of things happen at school, but that doesnt mean all of them really do, or that they happen in that context. If they did in this case, then I agree with you all about these teachers being useless jackasses. But, listen to this first - there have been female students who have accused male teachers of sexual assault type things so they could use it as blackmail, when it is completely false. But, by the time the truth comes out, the teacher has been found guilty by the public and basically has to leave the area if they want to teach anymore. This is why they now teach teachers (male especially) to try to never put yourself in a situation to even allow a kid to accuse you of something, ie, doors always open, tutoring in the library/cafteria after classes rather than in the classroom.
But, if in this case it is true, then these people have no business being teachers any longer.

Deoxyribonucleic Acid, for example... sounds impressive, right? But have you ever seen what happens if you put something in acid? It dissolves! If we had all this acid in our cells, we'd all dissolve! So much for the Theory of Evolution, Check MATE!

Worse, but not by much. They have more bigots in raw numbers, thats for sure... but what makes Canada as bad (if not worse) is our holier than thou attitude that these things don't happen here at a comparable rate as the US (its kind of like that shooting thread a while back, its not an American thing, its a North American thing, and people need to accept that crap flows south and north). It wasn't long ago when parents here wouldn't let their kids have German friends... and I'm not talking 1940s and 1950s, I'm talking 1970s and 1980s here. Let alone the all too frequent "Kualalala... hmm... I'll just hire Smith instead." Especially prevalent in the oilpatch.

All I'm saying is bigotry, intolerance and prejudice doesn't stop at the 49th parallel... not even close.

It happens EVERYWHERE, absolutley everywhere, there isn't a place you can name where it doesn't happen. Some places are worse then others obviously. My family has had far worse experiences in the US then ever in Canada, it just depends on which kinds of people you cross paths with. My parents who were born in India will tell you how bad it can get there, but not for someone who has white skin but for someone whose got a darker skin color, in India the lighter the skin the better (according to many), it's a sad truth but denial doesn't change anything.
