There are alot of words that may seem pointless in the english dictionary. They just need to be utilized correctly.

That said, there are thousands of words that basically have the same meaning. |
Well done!

Okay, it's two words, but "non-alcholic beer" has always seemed pretty pointless to me.

'Epic' isn't so much, but I find it used a lot less by everyone I know during the course of one year, then May, Hammond and Clarkson in one episode of Top Gear.

-I hate when people say 'touch base'
-I hate when people say the time including am/pm and then add in the morning/afternoon for example 'at 12 pm in the afternoon' is 'in the afternoon' really necessary? as if we couldn't understand the 'pm'

This is purely legalize but the word "whereas" drives me up the wall.
Does it offer anything beyond what "where" covers?

Somewhat related, a phrase I came to hate whilst (heh) laboring in retail during my Student years was "speak to it" (or, "speak to that").

Why do we need so many names for horses? Philly, stallion, pony, foal, stag....
What's wrong with female horse, male horse, old horse, young horse, zebra?

Whereas can take the place of "while on the contrary or although" and "in view of the fact that or since". It is a preamble statement.

Completely different meaning than where.

in my industry (chemical) Large Scale indicates a general size range. Big says nothing.

Or just call them all hay burners.

FWIW, a stag is a male deer, or a good party. |

Useless words and language at this link:http://www.geocities.com/transactoid/words.htm
However, I for one love all words. Utilize them all I say.

It’s not a pointless word but the misuse of the word
 Random

Its ridiculous how many people use this word in the stupidest contexts I recall one time…this girl told me this story I was so frustrated

“So like I was at the bar this weekend and I like dropped my licenses and my bank card so I was like freaking out and looking for it and than I found it in like the middle of dance floor where I was dancing….how random is that?!”

“Well not random at all considering it was lost and you found it where you were before”

“Well yeah I guess but it was like totally Random”

"That" is used far too much, especially in writing. People often use it was a connector word and the sentence is much better without it. Case in point, I just read the following: "We know that this mission is not only achievable - it is well within our grasp." Just say "We know this mission is not only achievable - it is well within our grasp."
Also count me in the irregardless(ly) and "I seen that" hating camps. "I seen that" is the worst though. To me, nothing makes a person sound more uneducated.
