I dont know if its true but some asians I know tell me that a lot of work is contracts out and women do piece work out of their homes. They keep extra pieces of material and then put together extras which get sold as the real deal which in a way they are.
Supposedly a lot of handbags are done this way.

It's pretty easy to tell a fake for most products, for purses you couldn't sell me a fake one even if your life depended on it, I know my purses (and jeans).

Even if you're paying half retail, you're still getting ripped off. I have a rule of thumb: pay as little as possible, as you're going to throw it out after 3 washes anyway. If you want brand name, order it from an authorized on line retailer or direct from Lacoste, Diesel etc. |
So do I have to go to Beijing, or where do you order them from? Ebay?

You'll have to go to Beijing. If you order a $100 Lacoste shirt off Ebay you might get it for $50, whereas you would get it for $5 if you went to China.

Yup, Crazy knockoff market in asia.I was in Thailand in Feb, and I got some crazy deals.
For instance, I'm currently wearing a $5 Lacoste polo purchased in Bangkok.

There are knock off markets it Seoul, but they're a lot more expensive than Beijing. Same stuff though.

Cool. He goes into Seoul all the time so I'll ask him to check it out. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, I'm getting tired of my Old Navy wardrobe.
