Buy one of these so you can also listen to the FAN960, it has an AM/FM tuner. It plays regular mp3s, no messing with iTunes horsecrap. Plus it records, line in or mic, with a timer. Only drawback is 2GB max.

I had my heart set on buying a nano, but as i was checking prices out I stumbled across the SanDisk Sansa e280. It was on sale at Best Buy for $20 more then the 4GB nano I had been looking at. It's an 8gb mp3, can store photos, videos, has fm radio, voice recorder and a color screen. I'll admit I'm slightly attached to it and haven't been able to put it down. It's basically the same size as the nano, just a tiny bit thicker.

Yeah the sandisk ones are good value for the $$, though the wheel thing doesn't have a great feel to it. I almost got one.

Apple Store refurbs are the best deal going. It's basically a brand new player in bare bones packaging. I got a 60GB Video for $259 and just got my wife a red 4GB Nano for $199.

If it wasn't for the fact that the OP was looking to use up his FS gift cards, he could get the 80GB Video and the first generation shuffle for just $9 more then buying just the 80GB at FS.

I've heard good about the Sandisks too...I'm sporting the Zen Vision M and I love it though.

If you are going to be using it for running then I recommend getting an Nano and this:

http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...re=MA365LL%2FB

The nike + system with the nano is awsome. It will tell you how fast you are running and keeps all you stats. Plus when you do a personal best you will get a message from Lance Armstrong telling you what a good job you are doing. Plus you can upload your stats and it will compare yours to others that have the system.

Been using this for the past month and a half, the wife has been using this 2 months.

Pretty cool stuff. Accurate too as far as distance and pace once you calibrate it. Workouts by time/distance/calories. Push the center button on the Ipod as you run, a voice comes on tells you your speed/distance/and pace. Lance comes on after your workout if you set a personal best, or offers you a deal on some performance enhancers or a local blood doping contact for a decent deal. Others pipe up to, depending on what you accomplished...my wife's heard them, I haven't.

The Nike + website that tracks it all is basic, giving you history of your runs, but I bet that will get a bit more advanced over the years, so you can analyze the runs a bit more in depth.

Don't get suckered in by the Nike+ shoes, they just have a hole cut for the chip under the sole insert. The Running Room has a shoe wallet that attaches to the laces (and can hold the "chip", as well as house keys), and now even a little plastic case big enough for just the "chip" that also attaches to the shoes.

browna, the Nike+ system certainly does intrigue me. I'm a sucker for integrated technology like that, and I'm glad to hear I don't actually need Nike shoes to make it work. I'm training to do my first 10k in September (Melissa's Road Race) so maybe Lance's voice will motivate me further.

I'm very glad that so many options came up on this thread. I have been stuck with old technology for too long, and I've been clueless as to what's out there. So, thanks, everyone.
