The UI looks very impressive. I prefer other mp3 & portable video options but it looks like Aple did a really good job on this product.

And I love that he quoted Gretzky at the end.

I kinda agree after seeing that whopping price. And the thing is, that's in US dollars. Pretty wacky stuff. Wait a year and a half until another manufacturer prices it $200 less. It's a really nice phone, but at the end of the day, it's not a laptop. I'm sure the early adopters will swarm to this thing though.

Apple seems to take everything to the next level. The unit looks impressive and aesthetically looks slick. The interface looks impressive! I wonder how soon we'll see them in Canadian retailers.

Those are all great features, but does it come with a lighter? That's all I've ever wanted in my cell phone.

20 bucks says MissKat buys one on the first day. Then sells it 4 weeks later for half the price.

See, this already exists, so what is so "revolutionary" about it? If anything, it's natural evolution. Chances are a few months later, another company will come out with something 10 times better, that is a fraction of the cost, but it won't have the Apple hype surrounding it.

Actually though, $600 doesn't really sound like a whole lot considering it's Apple and a decent cell phone (without a contract) is $300 and up. Honestly, I was expecting higher because an iPod is $400. But then again, it will be more here in Canada so I wouldn't be surprised if that phone retailed at $750 here.

Oooh - he's ruined it by quoting Gretz...

"There's an old Wayne Gretsky quote I love -- 'I skate to where the puck is going to be, not to where it's been.' That's what we try to do at Apple. Thank you very, very much." Huge, huge applause, standing ovation.

That said, this phone looks pretty freaking cool. Could be a major blow to the CDMA carriers and hasten it's demise of the standard. Some good integration by the Apple engineers, but I have to laugh at some of the hyperbole that Apple spins out and that the crowds eat up. Multi-Touch? While it's been tweaked, isn't it really just a touch screen at the end of the day? They way Jobs talks about it it sounds like he's invented fire or something.

$499 and $599US with a 2 year Cingular contract.

So it'll probably be about the same in Canadian with a 3 year Rogers contract.

Of course.. the Wii was called the Revolution before it got its official name as well.. it's marketing hyperbole, who cares.

The "revolution" is the interface; the vast majority of users don't use much of what their phone is capable of because the interfaces are horrible and usibility is abysmal.

And that's exactly what I said; this is good because it'll force the other device makers to improve their products, though what they'll specifically be able to do will be restricted by Apple's patents.

I see the halo effect from this phone doing very good things for the sale of Apple computers in the same way that the iPOD did.

And to all of you who are not enthalled with the revolutionary nature of this phone...show me the competition that exists for this right now...

I'ld say a good comparision is that palm treo phone, my friend has had one for over a year now and I would say it's the exact same plus with a camera. But, here's the catch, no Apple hype and a fraction of the cost.

Pretty cool but touch screen is a bad idea. That thing would get so scratched, dirty... With my iPod I have it in a complete case, one fingerprint drives me nuts

Looks pretty cool.

But is anyone else worried that it will go the way of your Ipod and get scratched to hell with that huge screen? They should solve that first.

To me this looks like Apple is creeping back to handheld PCs kinda like an iPAQ but less clunky....
I have a blackberry and surfing the net is a breeze...I quite enjoy it and use it dozens of times a day when I'm at work and my silly personal PC locks down. That being said, the iPhone looks quite impressive but I think I'll wait until it works itself out (and the price drops) before I'd look into investing in one.

Sling announced their "Sling-Catcher" yesterday. Sounds similar except that it will play media recorded with any codec - if your computer can play it it can stream it to the TV. http://www.i4u.com/article7580.html

Holy that thing looks amazing! I'm in need of a new cell phone and mp3 player, so this could be just what I need later this year.
