My gym experiences...
used to go to fountain park, but they shutdown due to lease increase
For economy, there is Fitness on 5th.
I went to WHC, the bay club. There is also one at 5th Ave Place now. Eye Candy, good equipment, annoying staff, good change room.
Eau Claire, I tried for a week and I found it frustrating. Not enough equipment, and old oil guys who went there to just hang out and hog the equipment that was there. I guess they felt sitting on the bench bs'ing was close enough to working out.
Banker's Hall was too expensive for me
Heaven's has tons of eye candy, and is pricey, but also has the dude in spandex factor.
Talisman is awesome, lots of equipment, gym, track, pool, etc. but it was too far for me to go to, and did see a guy beating off in the shower, which is kinda gross.

Anyone know when Golds is opening in Eau Claire? Or is it already?

Work out at the office.
Ron Burgundy: 1001, 1002, 1003.
Veronica Corningstone: Uh, Mr. Burgundy? Helen said that you needed to see me.
Ron Burgundy: Oh, Miss Corningstone. I wasn't expecting company. Just doing my workout. Tuesday's arms and back.
Veronica Corningstone: Well, you asked me to come by, sir.
Ron Burgundy: Oh, did I?
Veronica Corningstone: Yes.
Ron Burgundy: Ohh, it's the deep burn. Oh, it's so deep. Oh, I can barely lift my right arm 'cause I did so many. I don't know if you heard me counting. I did over a thousand.

I use the City of Calgary Gyms. In downtown there is on in Beltline (12ave, but its fairly small and run down). Fairly affordable and you can use all facilitles in the city with your membership.

So the Talisman is the only place that has mirrors in their shower stalls?

I should give a word for the Westside Rec Centre in Signal Hill. I've been a member for five years - it's a great facility, they're constantly updating equipment, and they're in the midst of a huge expansion right now. Right now it's insanely busy until the resolutioners drop out.

Kind of gross? I would have been freaked right out. You gotta be pretty much insane to pull something like that in a public place.

Great place, but I think they should have put a cap on membership. It's not just resolutioners - there are too many people there period right now. Hard to get parking last night, all the cardio machines were busy, and the hot-tub was over-flowing with people. The locker room floor is filthy, and half the TVs on the cardio machines don't work.

The public shower at Talisman doesn't have stalls, it's one big open shower area with about 6 shower poles, that have 4 shower heads on each pole. So if someone was beating off in the shower EVERYONE would have seen it.
I seriously think I might have slapped the guy. Was he handicapped or something?
The executive side is where I had my membership, so you never had to deal with that sh*t.

I heard some really good things about Golds on 130th. Pools and lots of stuff I didn't think a Gold's would have. They also gave free childcare for a year to my friends that joined. That alone could make it worth it.

Yeah, I've noticed the locker room is really bad lately. I've been going more in the mornings when the centre opens (5:15am) to avoid the insanity of the after-work crowd.
I do think it'll calm down in two - three weeks.

Really? I'm going to have to check this out. I signed up for the corporate rate back in July..I know the sales centre on the 1st floor is open, but haven't seen the 2nd floor open yet whenever I've been in the mall the last couple of weeks.

Also, it's on the edge of the City, not exactly downtown.
Thanks for the info... that seals the deal on my decision of whether or not to buy a membership.

It was some asian dude...he just turned around when I walked in, I turned around walked out. Got dressed, and told the staff. I was pretty disgusted. I went and bought shower shoes later that week.

This is from a while ago, but it never seemed busy when I went there.
