Do parents actually buy their children 700 dollar gaming consoles for christmas? If they do that is what I like to call SPOILED ROTTEN.

I would wait a couple weeks. So around the 12th or so, when those spoiled brats parents are feeling the pinch trying to find a system and find there are none, you could probably make a couple hundred more than you could right now. I wouldn't put it on a 10 day auction though because after the 18th or so, e-bay will likely be flooded with a bunch of 'em.

Doing this with a Flames ticket is scalping. Doing this with video game systems is capitalism. The difference? Some old ass law that just about every jurisdiction has in one form or another. I'm just not convinced, when the goods are in such a severely restricted supply, that there's any moral difference here.

Would you take pity on the poor sap who - apparently - set his 'Buy Now' price to $0.99 rather than his starting price?
I think that was done to circumvent the somewhat outrageous charges upon sale at ebay. Somethng was pre-arranged to do it through ebay, or the buyer (with zero feedback) gets an email mentioning the real total.
I think its the former./

The difference is that with ticket sales, there is an absolute finite number of tickets that can be sold. With PS3s, Sony can build more.

Plus shortages happen all the time, and our economic system works on that. People buy futures, and when the product comes in short supply the slae price goes up, and people make money.

Let's say I buy orange futures for Florida Oranges. I pay $1 per pound for March delivery. Now a freak snowstorm hits Florida; dropping the crop down to 40% of normal. Now oranges are selling for $3 per pound. But I've already secured my allotment at $1 per pound. I turn around and re-sell them for $3; making a nice profit for myself.

But expensive oranges don't make spoiled little kids (or me) cry!

Wow, even the OT board has disintegrated.

I've asked for advice about a bunch of things in the past, and 95% of the comments were constructive and on-topic. Sifting through some of the stuff in this thread makes baby Jesus cry.

Thanks to those of you who gave me their opinion. Yeah, I haven't done this before. Hence the topic in the first place.

Oh, one more thing. Nah nah nah boo boo, I have a PS3 and a Wii instead of you. You guys think I'm cool right?

There isnt much difference at all.

That being said, I see nothing immoral with scalping either - other than it is against some law. In my world, scalping would be allowed.

To answer Ro, I have a PS3 posted here in the Buy/Sell. I also have a 60 gb version to sell later. I took a blended approach; try to sell one now, and then sell the second one when the Christmas rush hits. That PS3 will be on ebay through the second week of December - that is my best guess.

The PS3 would be ok to have if it wasnt so expensive and the game selection was a little better but I would treasure having the Wii as much as having an Oilers jersey.

You used to be cool Ro.. Now you're just another one of those people crushing my dreams of having a Wii for Christmas!

I hope you're happy that I'm crying.. could also be that I just listened to some emo music though..

I don't know why people would spend above retail for a console. It gets even more confusing with from the first production run. Those things can be buggy, the net systems don't work right yet, and the games out for it are no where near what the system can handle. Heck, it took almost a year for decent games to come out for the 360, I don't expect anything different for the PS3.

Now, if you are one of those people that prefer to sell other than own a PS3, you might want to wait more till Christmas, since e-bay seems to be flooded with them right now. Demand might go up as we get closer to the holidays.

If it was a pre-arranged deal, why bother using eBay?

cause then the buy and seller both have a measure of protection should the other party try something shady. it costs the seller a bit, but it is just like buying insurance

You should feel badly and sell the Wii to me(at cost)
to clear your conscience.

Don't sell your Wii...

Go buy The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and enjoy the best game released in the last decade.
