No there the same signal, the only difference between is that HDMI carries a audio signal, where as DVI only carries video. But if your using it for the PS3, the PS3 also has a optical out, for digital audio.

I don't have a great sound system so it wouldn't make a big difference anyway. I'll give it some thought, I'm relatively poor but I might be able to find enough cash for this.
