You know, it's really too bad the roleplaying / strategy game that Sierra dominated back in the 1980's isn't still around. Those games had character, class, and great replay value - especially if you didn't cheat.

LOL!
I remember playing Oregon Trail on the Apple IIe computers at my elementary school. The year was around 1993 but the computers were from 1978!

I second unreal tournament. That is my favorite game of all time and I was quite addicted to it for a few year. There's also still a great online community that plays, even though it's 7 years old.

Age of Empries II - especially if you like RTSs such as Starcraft - (and if you want a Flames connection, the Flames guys used to play it all the time on their charters)

For those that want to play old games on fast computers, get the DOS emulator called DosBox
It will run almost anything.
Wing Commander has been mentioned so many times, it's a shame the franchise died. As for other gtames you can try, Jones in the Fast Lane, One Must Fall 2097, Prince of Persia, Dune 2, Sim City 2000, Theme Hospital, Scorched Earth, Silpheed...
Tons of adventure games. Etc. Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Day of the Tentacle, Leisure Suit Larry, etc.

Get a c64 emulator and grab these...
beauty is they are super fun and smaller file size than your average word document.
- Bruce Lee
- Archon I and II
- Jumpman and Jumpman jr.
- USA vs Russia hockey from EA
- Toy Bazaar
- Space Taxi
- Legacy of the ancients
- Lode Runner
- M.U.L.E
- Miner 2049
- HERO
- Bird vs Dr. J (One on one)
These will give you a good mix and run like the wind on your system. and best of all hours good productive work.

So many great games getting mentioned here. Monkey Island is one of my all time favourite games. They simply don't make great adventure games like that anymore. Great thread btw....
