What's the answer to that? I would guess this movie must be very close to the top, if not the top. It opened in way more theaters than any movie 10-20 years ago.

To answer Habernac's question, the reason they do this, is the studios report the numbers, and they want to make each succeeding movie seem like the biggest ever to generate more interest.

That's definitely not true. Films didn't open in any where close to 4000 theaters back then. It does have the highest all time inflation adjusted gross for its entire run, though.

I had someone tell me the reason Jackson did that was to avoid the "big head" syndrome that the actors would get after a successful 2nd movie and start demanding really large $$$. Makes sense in a way, plus you don't have to wait years and years like you said.

I found it hard to believe too, but it was the trivia question on the radio this morning.

I've looked but I can't find any numbers on it.

Loved it. It was tons of fun - much like being on an amusement ride (duh), the excitement just never really stopped. You didn't have much time to dwell on what had just happened, because something new was always going on.

Great flick. Go see it.

Definetely a good movie. I saw it with the wifey last night. I could not believe it was sold out on a Tuesday night! We went to the theather 30 minutes early and still had to sit close to the front.

I thought the sea creature pirates was going to be kind of cheesey but I thought it worked. Some of the action was over the top but they made it fun and it worked. Nice to go to a movie that I enjoy and dont feel bad about dishing out 30 buck to go see.
