When the Fan 960 plays that commercial to tune in on Saturday mornings to learn about colon therapy, I get all creeped out. And then I reach for the bran.

Joe Carbury!
Joe Carbury as Shaw's shill is an institution every bit as much as his track announcing.

He took kind of a bad turn when Leyden's Funeral Homes hired him on a TV pitchman about a decade or so ago though. Man, talk about a piece of mis-casting. An energetic voice where a somber voice would have been more appropriate? Needless to say, that gig didn't last long

Crappy commercials are one of the annoyances that drove me to XM Satellite radio. Channel 204 Home Ice is great... NHL hockey-talk and games 24 hours a day, almost every NHL game's radio broadcast, and very limited commercial interruptions (they usually just do quick plugs of other XM stations).

Free FM and AM are too annoying to listen to (especially after experiencing satellite radio). That being said, I used to enjoy the FAN960 and would gladly pay a couple bucks a month for it if they would cut out the commercials.

I think the Calgary Job Shop ads are great. They are creative, well produced and more importantly do the job. You remember them, know what they do, know the name of the company and even know the web site address. That's what ads should do.

Re. the drinking and driving spots my favourite is

"When I finally beat my dad at chess. It was a Tuesday".

Who the heck cares what day of the week it is? Everytime I hear that one I wonder why he notes the fact that it was a Tuesday. Chump.

I dunno. I kind of like Charlie. I think he's genuinely concerned that you get a good night's sleep at a price within your budget. He's like a kindly old uncle in that respect. Certainly better than the noisy neighbours or relatives that drop in unannounced at weird hours.

I also wondered what the heck was with that annoying voice on the Shaw GMC commercials, but now after living here for 4.5 years I understand what Carbury means to this city, especially around Stampede time.

The worst, by far and when I here it I have to turn down the station or just change the dial, has to be the Cannon Camera ones, the girls voice is just someone rubbing rusty nails against a chalk board and that little, Da Dun Da Dun intro music makes me sick, and the awful background echo stuff going on, the worst one of them all was the one they where running around Christmas can’t remember how it went but I do remember the headache it gave me

As far as good ones, the ones the Fan run with Beasley are good along with Dan burg floor coverings

My Fav drinking and driving one is the girl who says "First time I rode a horse.... it was... exhilirating" Don't worry lady, you won't embarass your b/f by admitting that the only time you had a Big O was when you were riding Seabiscuit around the meadow.... Not an ad per se, but I can't stand the 960 ad for the Stamps: "At the Fan 960 we respect the Stamps, and their fans..." They forgot to add a disclaimer to that part that says 'unless the Stamps are playing the Riders, then the Stamps fans can go screw themselves' Yes I'm still bitter about that ######ed RiderFan 960 party they had last year.

My favourite add has to be the Peter Mahar "High on Grass" spot - I love that Peter isn't so high on himself that he cannot have a little fun.

My least favourites are definitely the calgaryjobshop.ca adds, althought the Windsor adds are a close second (I do like the one with tag line of dirty underwear, one eye etc)

But with NHL Radio hockey on lately they have been running a hemoroids add, and an add for something called Head On. They are so cheesy, they are almost funny... "Should you know about Head On? Should I know about Head On?" In fact, I wonder what the demographic of the NHL Radio broadcasts are - clearly old geezers - with the 'Roid creme, head ache medicine etc...

Wow - most of the ones that bug me are already listed.

The latest Alarmforce one makes ma laugh - sounds like the guy when to the William Shatner school of voice acting, "I think, I am having.......... a heart attack". The alarmforce lady is obviously just reading her script - "I will stay with you"

And with the reasons not to drink and drive "In your face, Nicholas", or the guy who says his greatest day was "When I met her" and her response of "Whaattt!?" sounds like she was a little freaked out by that. Then, of course, the old guy who ditches work to see a movie.

I'm not sure if they play this one anymore, but it was some woman calling her husband to tell him she had a flat tire, but that she's alright and that she's calling from a pay phone because she didn't have a cell. I hate that damn commercial. The way she says, "because I don't have a cell phone" is so annoying. Get a bloody cell phone then! Jeesh!

For some reason I'm a big fan of the Paradise Bay commerical, I always catch myself singing along to "Hurray Hurray for Paradise Bay."

I kind of like that one. Noting the day really enforces how important that event was for that (fictional) character. I view it as the boy having a strong bond with his dad, with them playing chess a few times each week.

Some of my best (and happy) memories include noting what day it was, the weather that day etc. Somehow it makes them stronger memories, and easier to picture in my head.

I would. Most of us work damn hard (too hard), and something I've learned over the past 10 years or so (and no, I'm not even 40 yet) is that somedays, it's nice to slow down and smell the roses every once in a while....

Exactly. Work sucks. I'm not throwing my entire life away for it.

I guess my thinking is that because work sucks and I'm not throwing my entire life away for it, I wouldn't burn up one of my precious vacation / sick days just to go see a movie.

I have been growing increasingly intolerant to Rob Kerr whoring dog food on Sportsline. It never bothered me the first couple times I heard it but now I just change the station...

Rob Kerr.... I love ya man.... BUT I HATE YOUR FREAKING DOGS ALREADY.

I loved that one Da Vinci Code promo by Beasley and his son. That was pretty funny and entertaining, and I thought his son did a good job.

Paradise Bay is really catchy I also love the little "hurray, hurray for Paradise Bay!" chant.

Alarm Force is the biggest joke. I don't know how we are supposed to take them seriously with that low quality ad. Trew is right, the one commercial with the voice does sound like Buzz Lightyear. And then the one where some old lady explains how comforting it is to know she can speak with Buzz.. just humiliating.
