I'm not sure it would raise more. They only have a set number of tickets, and it always seems to sell out every year. They probably keep the ticket prices higher in order to keep the ticket numbers lower, so that people have a bigger chance at winning something.

Why would they even consider that, they almost always sell out. That is part of the allure - the limited number of tickets so the odds of winning something is much higher than other lotteries.
Dropping the price would just cost them revenue. Increasing the number of tickets sold would decrease the odds of winning and cause some prospective buyers to lose interest.

if the tickets were cheaper, you would have to sell more tickets to raise the same amount of money, meaning that the odds of winning would be less, making the perceived value of the tickets less.
I'd bet that they have knowledgeable professionals in charge setting the price points to maximize the proceeds.

I play the Princess Margaret and London Dream Home lottery every year and have won a knife set, an iPod, a bagel toaster and panini grill. All stuff that I don't need, but still nice to win anything when you play.
I also won a couple of gift card for Montanas, Harvey's, Kelsey's, and Swiss Chalet.

Our south store manager and his wife won the grand prize home in the Lifestyles Lottery a few months ago.

Yeah, I play the Foothills and Lifestyle Lotteries most years, and for a long time didn't win a thing. but in the last 4 years I've gotten headphones (which retails for the price of a ticket), a $100 gift certificate to Campers Villiage, and a fancy alarm clock (which retails for the price of a ticket). So I have won 3 "break even" prizes.

I usually buy a 3-pack for $250.
I have also played the Sick Kids Lottery in the past and tickets are cheaper, but I never win anything so I stopped playing.

Just 1, and since they offered it, the buy-in for the 50/50 split.

There is little to NO chance that lotteries/raffles on this scale are anything but on the up and up. There are stringent regulations to putting one of these on, and they risk far far too much by trying to rig anything. these kinds of things raise a LOT of money for their charity.

I won a VCR a few years ago.
I haven't bought tickets in any of these since they went to the format of getting more tickets for cheaper, the more money you put in. I can only afford $100 and i know the people who put in more have better odds than me. Aside from giving to a charity I hate to play games of chance when I am immediately at a disadvantage.
