I've been very leery of Creative, simply because they seem to like to send out huge driver bloatware, and have questionable business practices. I have heard that their recent MP3 players are getting very good.

Ya I was a little scared to buy a Creative over Sony at first as well, but I had a few friends with their Creatives tell me it was the way to go, and I trust their judgement since they are electronics nuts.
I've had it for about a year now with no problems at all, the knob for changing songs still has as much spring as it always did, I use it at the Gym 4 times a week and it isn't a gym type model (they try to sell you the type they say is specifically for the gym, I didn't bite for 50 bucks more) and it has had no problems. Being banged around a lot in my gym bag, running with it on my hip, i'm sure a fair amount of sweat finds its way in as well.
My model was also about 50 bucks cheaper than the Sony model, now if 50-60 bucks is nothing for you then by all means go with the sony, but for a University student right in the heart of the school year it is one less Flames game at the bar come playoff time!
