The first is the yet to be named 6th Tool album. I'm a huge fan of Tool. Lateralus blew me away. I can't find a firm date, but they seem to be targetting March or April. They are about to start promotion tours in Europe so it's coming soon. Can't wait.

The other one is the latest offering from Queensryche. Operation: Mindcrime II will be out on April 4th! A lot of people haven't cared for the stuff Queensryche has been putting out for the last several years. I definitely prefer the early stuff, but I appreciate the new stuff as weel. OMCII might seem like a desperate attempt at first glance, but I have heard bootlegs of a couple of the songs played live and I can say that I was pretty impressed. Operation: Mindcrime is one of the greatest rock records ever made...I'm not expecting equality..that's just crazy, but this one should be great!

(anybody besides me an Lanny even LIKE Queensryche??)
No bigger TOOL fan out there than ME! Anyone has question, ask me, I am a TOOL fanatic!

3 guesses where my handle came from...

New release Feb 14 called the Artic Monkeys, awesome cd, they are the next big thing outta england, download "I bet you look good on the dance floor". Kinda like Franz Ferdinand.

Also there is a new Cursive cd coming out at some point this year, easily one of the most brilliant bands on the planet.

Geez, that should've been in my initial post. Another one I've known about for a while now!

Why is my memory so long but so sketchy, isn't Atreyu the name of one of the characters from "The Never Ending Story" ?

looking forward to Pearl Jam, Tool, and Grandaddy (will be their final album).

I'm particularly interested, like many of you, to see where Tool will be taking things musically. They're pretty unpredictable and inventive with what they do. Must be why they take forever to release albums. I haven't been too impressed by A Perfect Circle, so looking forward to hearing Maynard with Tool again.

Their album is selling like crazy over there. Too me they just seem like, as you say, more Franz Ferdinand type stuff. Nothing earth shattering from what I've heard. Of course, british magazines like NME have been hyping up mediocre bands in bunches for the last several years, and every one of them was supposed to be the saviours of music. I guess one day, they'll be right.

Dis, the tool CD is being Mastered right now. Can't wait to hear it, they are an amazingly talented group. I met MJK once, very thoughtful person.

They are also going to be headlining the Coachella festival this spring.

I like Tool more than APC on the whole, but a few of my favourite songs are off of Mer De Noms.

I don't know if I have ever heard someone sing something like MJK sings 3 Libras on that disc.

I can't remember meeting you before!

Anyways, this just in...its not 'being' mastered, it's DONE!

TOOL RECORD MASTERED Salma stopped dancing on January 29th. The next morning the members of the band flew to Portland, Maine to have the record mastered by Bob Ludwig. This was done on January 31, no doubt followed by a lobster dinner.

Add Gov't Mule to the list of bands I love releasing new material this year.
They just finished recording this past week in Willie Nelson's studios in Austin, TX. No word on a release date yet.

I do.

Last summer, me and some buddies were having a few sodas and discussing who we thought were some of the most underrated albums of all time.

Mindcrime got my vote. Love it.

Not really a release, but there were rumors floating around at some point or another of Alice In Chains getting back together. Of course the band would be REALLY different without Layne Staley, but they did do a concert thing (they were guests) where they had a bunch of guest singers run out and sing for them.

Jerry Cantrell sang a few, that guy from Puddle of Mudd, and most impressive of all...Maynard! It was pretty cool listening to it, he definitely gave the songs a different feel to them.

I hope they don't reunite, at least under the name "alice in chains"...that band could never be the same without Layne. If they start a new band, i'm fine with it.

The guy from puddle of mudd is a wankster.

On March 10th, the surviving members will be playing a show with Heart in Atlantic City which will be recorded and aired on VH1. Anne Wilson has sang with the band on occasion, including at the event you described. It is, after all, Anne who worked her magic on 'Brother' from the Sap EP.

The scuttlebut surrounding this is that they want to record together again. Not sure if they will replace Layne or not, but I would not be surprised to see a new AIC record in the next couple of years.

I have mixed feelings about it. Layne's death was not their fault. If they want to continue making music together as AIC, I understand that. At the same time, it's not really AIC if someone else is singing. Maybe Jerry will do all the vocals?

In the end, maybe they'll opt to take the Led Zeppelin route. Bonzo died and they were done. So many rumours flew around with replacement drummers...even Bonzo's son Jason was supposedly going to replace him at one point...but none of them ever materialized. I think that Plant and Jones were dead set against ever recording/performing as Led Zeppelin without John Bonham.

Maybe there will be a season of Rockstar Alice In Chains. They can replace Staley with some loser from PEI.

Nice. Still a long time away, but might as well get excited early.
Do you know the date for the Thursday album you mentioned?
