I don't think I'd like a ridge wallet that has to go in the front pocket and I don't use a phone case so traditional wallet is still it.
But it has to be thin, I hate bulky wallets. I carry 5 cards + DL and some cash usually.
For the cracking card issue I find if I just rotate my cards every so often (so they are face in instead of face out) when they start to look bent that seems to resolve it, haven't had a cracked card in a long time.

Locally made. I've had the wallet about a decade. Seems to get better looking with age. Keep it in my back pocket. No damage to it. The leather and the stitching is totally intact. The outside leather has a cool looking patina to it now.
I paid more like $63.88 USD (dollar was close to on par then, so about $70 CAD which is the equivalent of $92, according to BoC inflation calculator) for my wallet in 2014. It remains in perfect shape and I expect it to last at least another decade, if not for the rest of my life.
Yes, I would gladly pay $100 for a wallet I know will last. Changing wallets is a PITA and bad/broken down wallets will destroy your cards.
Plus, having a nice well worn in leather wallet gives you a lot more credibility than pulling out some canvas/velcro ordeal.

Wallet credibility?
Is that a thing, and if it is, why?
I mean I get it you can't use a ziploc anymore which is what I used through my late teens and through my 20's.

Yep, I have one of the Popov 5 card holders and it has been excellent. Very well constructed and great patina.
I don't mind spending a bit of money on something that lasts.. the Fossil wallet I have goes for $85 but I got it cheap at Winners.. but if I'd paid $85 I'd be upset because it's wearing out at the corners.

I assume they mean that in the circles they run in something like what kind of wallet you have helps define who you are as a person and what people think of you.
I dunno, it holds money and a driver's license and is in my pocket 99% of the time. Perhaps I'm a bit low brow for such niceties and am ignorant to the ways of the world.
I've been using one of these: https://secrid.com/en-global/wallets/slimwallet/
for the past few years and it's been really solid. Took a bit of getting used to, but have slimmed down to just the essential cards I need to carry and a few bills. Handling change is a bit of a chore now, but thankfully not something that comes up too often.
I have had a Secrid wallet for over a decade now. I would definitely get a slimwallet - vintage again.
I have found recently are that the card holder doesn't like it too much if I don't have a full complement of cards in it and if you are less than full the cards will easily slide in and out on their own. I think whatever is inside to provide resistance to this has just worn out over time. Second, my black bill holder has torn on one half at the bottom. Probably my fault for having too many items in it at times.
I got a TUMI Wallet for my birthday about 10 years ago and it still looks brand new. Its a bit pricy if you purchase it yourself, but makes a great gift and effectively lasts forever.
That being said however, I dont carry it around in my pants pocket or anything for the most part, it usually goes either in my briefcase or a coat pocket so its with me, but not in a cumbersome manner.
For day-to-day use I have a wallet case on my phone that carries my ID, Health Card and two cards that I use most frequently.

and I never sit on my wallet, that causes the cards to crack. Its usually front pocket, car or jacket pocket. Apple pay makes me less likely to need my wallet all the time.
I’m using a Ridge wallet and couldn’t be happier with it, although you do pay a premium for the Ridge branding and I the knockoffs are probably just as good.
I pretty much stopped carrying cash entirely a few years ago and pared down my wallet to 5-6 cards that I can’t put in Apple wallet or that I feel like are still necessary to physically carry. I also find it quite rare these days to even need to pull a card out.
My favourite part of using the Ridge is that I got the one with the integrated money clip. If you don’t mind it showing a tiny bit, it can work as an awesome pocket clip. I put the wallet itself inside my pocket but have the clip on the edge of my pocket. It locks the wallet in place really securely and is very comfortable even when sitting.
I also swapped my keys over to a just a basic Keysmart, which I think is the greatest key ring every invented. I haven’t had my keys dig into my leg or feel bulky in my pocket since I swapped. I can keep the Keysmart in the same pocket that my wallet is clipped into and they never touch each other, and it’s super comfortable all the time.
When I was looking for a new wallet after my last one started looking like hell, I did this:
Step 1. Go here, sorted by Price - Low to High and added "Men's" as a search term (link already does this).
Step 2. Browsed until I found something I liked that was in nice shape and wasn't exorbitantly expensive for what it was.
The high-end brands use high-quality hides, but there is no way in hell I'm paying what they want brand new, and the local second-hand market is still too much. The Japanese second-hand market is where the deals are to be had -- I bring this up with second-hand watches too; Japan rules for this stuff.
I picked up a really nice vintage LV men's bi-fold wallet with an ID window and a zipper for $220 and a mint condition Hermes Copernic bi-fold for $250 (which is a $2,200 wallet brand new). The LV has only the tiniest little logo imprint on the corner so you can't tell from a glance, and the Hermes has no branding other than the print on the inside, so they thankfully aren't attention-drawing, but you get really good hide and construction.
If it's something you're gonna keep a long time (and I do), it's a great option.
