How many of the top ten picks in this coming draft will be in the tournament?
It's usually a 19 year old event, so guessing not many.

Surprised Team Canada wants him! Usually they’re not interested in taking the best players.

McKenna was on the team last year so he is in. Gotta think Verhoeff, and Stenberg are locks?

I think he should go, but he is probably learning more practicing and playing with NHLers.

I'm super curious as to what we see when he gets there.
Is he rattled and therefore not the same player as he would be if he's shredded the OHL for 10 weeks?
Or does his play bump up instantly with the drop in competition level vs the show?

Isn't he hurt? Thought he has a busted collar bone or something?

We don't really know for sure, but it seems likely that they would. Especially with Schaefer and Brunicke likely staying in the NHL (although the Pens haven't confirmed that yet).

The assumed blueline for Team Canada has shifted a lot, which I think probably means he's on the team.
Heading into the season Team Canada was probably hoping to get Schaefer, Dickinson, Brunicke and Parekh on the team. Or at least 2 or 3 of them. Now maybe they get one.
Mews was probably a candidate. Now he's out.
And then you have guys like Aitcheson and Cam Reid.
But it seems like it's way more likely Verhoeff is on the team now.
I don't know that Reschney is a lock. Would love to see it. But not sure.
Lots of shifts there too. McQueen probably was assumed to be on the team, but now - probably not.
And then will any of Misa, Catton, or Sennecke be made available?
Seems like if the answers to those questions are no - that opens a spot for Reschney for sure.

Good, get him some experience with games that matter. And get his confidence back up.

Not sure what you are fussed about. He was barely a camp invite for the WJC for 2 years. It's just a fact. Was it dumb? Maybe. Has something changed in the braintrust? Maybe not. And even if it’s Zayne unleashed he has not played there before or with those players. It’s a step for him and it’s great.

Always interesting to see what these orgs do.
Catton has played 14 games but has just 3 assists. His ice time varies but three of his last 5 games have been under 10 minutes.
Misa has played just 7 games total and only 1 this month, and in his 3 of his last 4 game was around 10 minutes.
He is injured and the timelines is still several weeks, so might not be available for WJC anyway.
Sennecke has 13 points in 19 games and is playing over 15 minutes a game; no chance he goes to WJC I think.

For Team USA, I wondering if Potter makes the team with the tournament in his home state. Wyttenbach must have got someone’s attention as well

Other possibilities include:
Potter - USA (decent chance)
Phillips, USA (outside chance)
Stockselius, SWE (outside chance)
Mews would have had a chance
Too bad Gridin can't play

Brunicke in Pittsburgh is pretty much in the same situation as Parekh. He can't be sent to the AHL, but the Pens are apprehensive about sending him back to the CHL. He has only played 9 games so far this season and has been healthy scratched the last 5 games in a row and the Pens said today that they might send him to the AHL for a conditioning stint.
When asked about sending him back to junior, they were really vague and just said that they "have a plan" for him. It's funny though, because when Huska does it with Parekh, it's because he hates kids and wants to punish him.
As a side, I didn't realize that scratching a player 5 games in a row makes them eligible for an AHL conditioning stint. The Flames should have did that with Parekh before he got hurt.

Being injured is not the same as being scratched.

I don't think he is injured. The article I read only said he was scratched. Puckpedia isn't showing anything in their transactions either, nor is Google coming up with anything suggesting otherwise.
Quote:
Penguins rookie defenseman Harrison Brunicke has been scratched for five consecutive games, which opens the door for the 19-year-old to be loaned to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins for a one-time 14-day conditioning assignment.
It seems a decision has been made, kind of.
“I don’t think it’s my place to tell,” Brunicke said.
Muse also gave the no-answer answer.
“We have a plan for him, and we’ve been working through that plan for him. There’s been a lot of discussion with him and our plan. Continue to execute it,” Muse said. “There’s on ice, there’s off ice. There’s been video. There are a lot of things going on behind the scenes that might not be evident if you just watch practice, but there is a plan, and I’m not going to get into any more details on that.”
