The risk is that someone else also puts in a cliam, and the Flames have to keep him up with the big club.

Wranglers have one win in their last 10. A playoff spot is not yet guaranteed.

A no cost move that bolsters the team (however marginally you went to argue). You don’t make that move? Wouldn’t making the playoffs help those young players development more than leaving an additional spot open for some green AHL rookie?

Not much of a risk at that. I doubt any playoff team would put in a claim and any team below the Flames that put in a claim would get him.

Then you waive him again, which will lead to one of the following scenarios:

1. a team claims him
2. he clears and you can assign him to the wranglers

No big whoop either way. Maybe the Flames pass. Maybe another organization claims him.

Duehr is a decent goalscorer at the AHL level. He'll help someone.

I remember reading somewhere that there is a waiver claim fee.. and that sometimes it is cheaper for the team to acquire them in a trade.

Flames already got a waiver claim fee when SJ claimed him off waivers. Should be the exact same fee to claim him back.

Yikes that's a sad day in the Duehr camp if the Flames didn't see him helping the Wranglers.

He still gets to stay in San Jose and help the Barracudas. Not all sad.

Kind of seems like there must have been something the organization didn't like about him. Then again, maybe just clearing space for the influx of depth players/prospects the organization will see with all the draft picks they have.

I originally thought about the 50 contracts angle but the guy is a UFA at the end of the season.

Maybe Connie and Duehr had a handshake deal for a fresh start somewhere else?
