The Spengler cup looks like a lot of fun to attend, but it seems to hold no value unless I’m missing something. The venue is outstanding, but beyond that it seems like a competition of nobodies and “oh hey I remember that guy”.
#### I used to play hockey with a Canada regular Spengler cup participant and he was pretty ok at hockey at best.
The Spengler Cup seems to be a big deal in Switzerland, with major sponsors and TV viewership. It’s on during the holidays so it’s likely become a cultural tradition.
Having TEMU Team Canada participate apparently still has some marquee value.

I'd love to go one day.
The atmosphere seems amazing, but...unfortunately it'd have to be part of a more comprehensive trip because it seems like it'd be a lot of money.

It is and I just love the randomness of teams invited. You just never know who's going to make it out side team canada and Davos. Could be a team from del, ahl, Sweden ish elite leugue etc etc.
It's kinda the who's hot and who's not outside of the nhl teams worldwide. It's a unique tournament tht showcases alot of different talent that may or may not make Olympic teams.
All the rosters I remember had some AHL guys on it. Last year had Dillon Heatherington, Nic Beaudin, and Ty Smith, plus Thomas Milic from the ECHL. 2022 had Riley Nash, Alan Quine, Brendan Perlini, Josh Brook, Beaudin, Toby Bisson, Kevin Connauton, Wyatt Kalynuk, Mike Hutchinson, and Mike DiPietro.
