It's funny, as we were just doing some AI testing around facts.
AI sounds very definitive, but in about 25% of the cases gave completely incorrect facts.
It reminds me of that guy who emphatically tells you about incorrect facts, loudly.
The one I remember was about US salary data. It got the mean right (I think that was around $60k), but had median salary around $80k. Like it was so obviously wrong that it's kind of surprising, as there is no nuance in getting that fact.
The issue with AI is they don't give you the backing data to interpret if what it says is correct. If you like data and understand how much variety there is in a 'fact', this is a huge problem.
My take: AI is good for people that simply want an answer and aren't focused if the answer is correct. AI is really flawed when it comes to nuance and things that are grey, though it is ok at presenting concepts.

AI is basically like a loud user on Reddit. Makes sense since it gets a lot of data from Reddit.

I don't disagree at all. AI is wrong ALOT, in fact chatgpt appears to have regressed and i stopped paying for it because i no longer saw the advantage over the free version.
But i said superior search engine, but alas i figured it would go with out saying that what might work for me with what I do may not be for someone else.
it is still far superior over things like stackoverflow and github issues/discussions.

That's the second thing the U.S government has asked Google to divest from. The first one was the DNA thing, I want to say 23 and me?
I wonder what the red flags are for the u.s government to start breaking up their biggest tech company.

Why would they try to force Google to sell Android? Apple's marketshare in the US dwarfs that of Google/Android, why not go after them for iOS?

Do you trust AI search?
I find on anything requiring any technical detail it’s inaccurate. I find it quite frustrating.

That's the equivalent of saying "I don't use Chrome, I just use a search engine."
You can't use "AI", you use an AI by a company, which is a product. Googles AI is already integrated into their search and (I assume) browser.

One thing that is worrying is the use of AI in wearables.
These are completely replacing google for search, as you ask a question and get an answer. The issue is that when you just hear "the answer is ABC" is an authorative sounding voice it seems right.
I have a friend that uses his rayban glasses quite a bit. It seemed really cool at first, and he would just get answers to questions. But this is where we first started to notice the issue with AI powered answers being wrong quite a bit.
Anyways, I know AI will get better, but I'm not sure just giving 1 answer is the best path forward for humanity. It's like the issue with people just reading headlines and not understanding article, only worse.

If I'm going to have to start remembering passwords I'm so ####ed.

Google said it will file its own proposals next month. Court hearings on Google’s punishment are scheduled to begin in April. Judge Amit Mehta of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, who is overseeing the case, is expected to make a decision on Google’s punishment by August 2025.

Judge 'Meta' eh? Is Ol' Zuckerberg getting involved? There appears to be something foul afoot in the state of Denmark...
