He didn't break a record, or pass someone significant. Big meh.
In Candian media this is getting more coverage that Ovi potentially breaking the goal record.

I would have assumed they used a photo from the team/season the player scored the 1000th point with, but Nieuwendyk and Mullen are both with the Flames in their pictures, so it's not that.

It will be cool if they have the photos arranged in chronological order with who got 1,000 points first, etc.

I dont understand the bashing of McDavid's achievement of getting 1000 points as insignificant when he is the 4th fastest, passing a majority of greats in the game. I hate the Oilers and McDavid is far from one of my favourite superstars, but this is a crazy achievement as he does have a chance to maybe hit 2000 points.

MacKinnon will be next 100%, one of my favourite players and is on pace for some crazy point totals. If there is a player that is close to McDavid's dominance when on the ice, its MacDawg

He was the 4th fastest to hit 999 too. Why didn't we celebrate?

1000 points always gets coverage and 4th fastest is significant. I didn't see a lot of hype about this in advance, unlike AO's pursuit which is an going story that is fun to follow.

McDavid gets way too much coverage, but this isn't an example of it.

Brad Marchand - Born 1988, 942 points, 1047 games played.

Nathan MacKinnon - Born 1995, 932 points, 808 games played.

Jamie Benn - Born 1989, 915 points, 1127 games played.

Corey Perry - Born 1985, 909 points, 1327 games played.

Nikita Kucherov - Born 1993, 897 points, 740 games played.

Fun bonus, if Spezza unretires he just needs 5 more points.
MacKinnon and then Marchand/Kucherov. Assuming no injuries, it's almost certainly MacKinnon. All 3 should do it eventually though.

Perry won't make it. Benn will probably slowly get past 1000, running on fumes.

The real question is how much time everyone spent trying to name as many of those mug shots as possible. Without a list, I am probably not much better than 50-60%. Were i to write it down I could probably get up to 75%+ knowing its in alphabetical order.

Because they're marshmallow points. We know he cares more about points than winning and thus, at least to me, his points are largely meaningless and I'm not about to celebrate them.

So a guy who plays for points has gotten 1000 of them. Whoop-de-doo.

People just need to get the McDick out of their mouths long enough to see what else is happening in the sport. It's literally the laziest move of all.

You can write a Pulitzer-worthy piece on some behind the scenes aspect of the NHL, uncovering long forgotten secrets through years of research and investigation... literally the journalistic piece of a lifetime... the piece of work you're going to be remembered for for years to come...

But some schmo with an iPad will post two paragraphs about Mcadavid's heated driveway and it will dwarf your story within minutes, in terms of traction and attention.

It's really maddening when you think about it. Sometimes I feel like Buscemi straddling that nuke on the astroid... all I can do is just sit here and watch while the planet gets more and more stupid as the years go on.

Edit: Whoops. I kinda went off on a tangent there. Don't worry, it came out of nowhere for me too!

Unless, of course, Kylie Jenner hates the Oilers. There's lots of but in that case.

Mcdavid: gets 1,000 points.
SportsNet the next day: MCDAVID’S ROAD TO 2,000!

Spoiler, he’s apparently going to score 101 points a year for the next 9 seasons.

Every time when people say I hate the Oilers, but.....it usually means that they don't actually hate the Oilers, in fact, they are Oilers' diehard fans.

So this is the crazy stat that just popped up on my socials.
Gretzky is the first AND second fastest to score 1000 points.
First 1000: 424 games
Second 1000: 433 games

That's nuts.
