From past experience....I would avoid McBride!

But it's not easy to detour East there as you pretty much need to go to Kamloops and than East. I think that Adams Lake Forestry Services road is still closed as it used to offer like an hour in time savings as you could take Agate Bay road South of Barrier and come out close to the Squilax Bridge. I don't know if I'd want pull a trailer on that, or even want to drive it with my Honda Accord. But I've seen other people do that.

McBride has fires too. BC is getting hit pretty hard. Fortunately there are cooler temperatures this week. Barker ville and Wells are evacuated too.

People who drive on FSRs with passenger tires are just asking for trouble.

I still remember that nutbar from BC that was celebrating on social media back when forest fires hit Fort McMurray. Used to be a fan of Electric Playground, they gave him a token suspension after a lame I'm sorry that you're offended apology.

Much of central BC is the same, they whole region is one giant fuel source for fires.

Thousands of wildfire evacuees forced from Jasper National Park into British Columbia along smoke-choked mountain roads Monday were directed Tuesday to make a wide U-turn and head home if they needed a place to stay.
Alberta fire officials said B.C. has its hands full with its own wildfires and evacuations.
“The issue is the severity of wildfire activity and evacuations in B.C. proper," Stephen Lacroix, managing director of the Alberta Emergency Management Agency, told reporters during a video conference.
"They had no capacity to house Albertans."
Alberta Public Safety Minister Mike Ellis said reception centres were being set up in Grande Prairie to the north and Calgary to the south.
Ellis told evacuees to take massive detours, either through Prince George, B.C., proceeding north and east to Grande Prairie, or south to Kamloops before going east to Calgary.

Obviously the first priority is getting people safe and I'm not at all trying to trivialize that.

I was in Fort McMurray during the 2016 fires and evacuation.
As I sit and look out my windows, this landscape will never be as pretty as it was, at least not in my lifetime. It would sure be a shame if some of Canada's prettiest lands, in my opinion, suffered the same fate. Those areas, Jasper, Kananaskis, Canmore, etc. are some of the best views that Canada has to offer and arguably rank as amongst some of the nicest in the world.

I know, it probably seems petty right now, but I hope these gorgeous areas aren't destroyed.

I'm such a sucker, too. My thoughts always drift to the poor wild animals involved.

Won't be as pretty for a very long time, but may be a different kind of impressive. We went to Waterton a a few years ago and I was expecting to be devastated by the fire aftermath. There were still burnt trees, no doubt, but the lack of foliage/needleage(?) opened up the view of the underlying terrain and we could see way more of the landscape. A few years growth of lower level trees and bushes softened the view. I was pleasantly surprised.

Well, I can't comment on the policy, and I refuse to participate in any of the AB vs BC partisanship that drags us all down, but my doors are open and I'll have people at my house over the next few nights for sure.

Same thing down in Glacier NP. We did the Virginia Falls hike in June and much of it runs through an old burn area. It was quite stunning and made for an impressive landscape and views. New foliage is coming in nicely. Saw a family of bears eating away heartily. It’s nature’s cycle.

A couple of thoughts on how the view may change. First, some of these areas around Jasper have been ravaged by pine beetles and while the mountains are beautiful the view is also of thousands of acres of dead forest. Fire will allow renewal of the forest. Anyone who drives and is familiar with Hwy 93 down to Radium sees this first hand. There was a massive fire that came right down to the highway in 2004. Year by year that forest is changing as it grows back, it's remarkable to see it each year.

Doesn't seem unreasonable to me at all. I can't imagine a huge surplus of accom vacancy at this time of year to begin with, before even factoring any other evacuations.

This must particularly suck for Edmontonians caught up in this. Google is showing about 10.5 hours from the Tete Jaune to Calgary right now, but Edmonton is closer to 13 hours for either the north or south route. Oooph.

Out of control wildfire about 25 km west-ish of Water Valley. They've set an evac order for a number of properties and an evac alert for some others. It isn't all that far from where we perma-camp, especially when you consider how fast these fires can move.

We brought the trailer home the beginning of July though, and it will be a bit yet before we take it back out - could be a lucky thing that we brought it home.

Yep the renewal is rather fast. Hiking Carthew Anderson in waterton is a different yet still awesome experience
