They signed Oesterle on the second day of Free Agency to a one-way contract. I guess we'll see how that commitment works out.

I agree, I thought he’s been nice and steady, and moving the puck well most of the time. Nothing spectacular at all.

Oesterle had a tough game last night for sure, but I thought he had a really good camp up to that point. Solovyov has been a big surprise, and has inserted himself into the mix, which is awesome. Even though he probably starts the year in the A, he is going to play some games.
The guy I am having trouble with is Schwindt, just not seeing anything there.

Having that Shwindt spot might be a good chance to insert some toughness. Though they don't really have anyone close to NHL caliber, unless you use Gilbert as a 7th D.

Because they were under the cap, therefore, it made no sense to put him on LTIR as it would have prevented the Flames from accumulating cap space as the year went on. I can't recall whether they did end up putting him on LTIR at the trade deadline, though.

Nope, Flames were under the cap for the full season
LTIR was not required,
However with the injuries I can definitely see the Flames using LTIR this year

Kylington was eligible for LTI, but they just never needed the space.

Well I had also heard that not going on LTIR also meant that some of the benefits and league programs would be available uninterrupted…and that going in LTIR meant that his issues for being on LTIR and updates while on IRwould have the potential to be more publicly disclosed at the time or after. So, out of respect for those things, the Flames didn’t use LTIR.
Not sure if that’s true or not, just what I heard from a trusted source over the summer.

My point I so that the team identified and targeted him early in free agency. He’s going to get more runway than a typical waiver pickup.

So if I have this right, the roster changes from the end of last season are:
Toffoli, Lucic, Lewis, Stone out
Coronato, Sharangovich, Hunt/Schwindt, Oesterle in
I guess a bit younger & faster but essentially the same team that underachieved last season, without its top scorer.
Was hoping for more change, as last year was incredibly bad.

93 points is incredibly bad?
The hope is the mood around the team and the play style (along with more ice time for good players) will pick up a few more wins. Not to mention the goaltending that is probably most important.
No Pelletier and Kylington isn't ideal for sure

The points themselves weren't bad. It was how this team was losing: - The inability to mount a comeback in the 3rd.
- Letting in back breaking goals despite having the puck for most of the game.
- The amount of low danger shots the team fired.
- The lackluster PP
- The terrible OT record
- The effort level and corresponding losses against bottom feeders like Chicago
- The lack of winning streaks to speak of
The boring hockey combined with the lack of success really frustrated many fans, and the players themselves.

hopefully the new coach can help with some of these....but goaltending has to be better

Missed the biggest change:
Out: Sutter

I agree there’s a new culture and feeling around the team. But Sutter was an elite cup-winning coach. Huska is unproven.
At the end of the day it’s on the players to perform. Agree that goaltending is a huge factor for the Flames to have a chance.

I sympathize for Kylington and his issues as I have been continuing to deal with mental health issues my whole life. (Asbergers) but, It's time to move on and cut him out if he can't be ready to play by the middle or near the end of November if I'm the Flames. It's becoming very obvious this just isn't his life's path if he took a season and a half off and can't get his #### together.
I'm pulling for him but if within that time line he can't organize himself it's better for him and the organization to part ways. Maybe pro hockey isn't in the cards for him and he ends up running a multi billion company or a Nation staple mom and pop shop.
