Yeah, I have some of this I keep by the front door, but have never had to use it. A few years ago my trashy neighbour had multiple big aggressive dogs they never leashed, so I'd keep this on me if I was screwing around in the front yard.

I live across from an off leash where the owners seem to think everywhere outside of the off leash park is also off leash - most of them drape the leash around their necks like it's a necklace. I might have to get some of this spray. For the owners.

we have new neighbours that moved in just up the road about 3 months ago and have a bad habit of not always locking their yard gate. they have a huge rottweiler. he's a really nice dog around people but it's like a switch gets flipped in his head if he sees another dog and he goes absolutely insane and wants to kill it. i have no clue why the owner would want an animal like that in a neighbourhood where probably 50% of the families have dogs and regularly walk them.
there's already been 2 near misses with dogs out for walks with their owners.
there are a number of us that now keep a baseball bat right next to our door in case something happens. our neighbours all know that one of our exterior doors on the house is always unlocked from pretty much 6am until midnight and if they ever need a 'quick escape' to just run into our house.

See, that's insane. That dog should be removed from the neighbourhood. No one should have to live in that kind of fear from someone's pet. That's insane.

i've already told my wife that if it happens to attack a kid (not just ours) i would not hesitate to kill the dog. i've got a knife that has a thick 3" blade i use for opening/breaking down boxes that is about 15' from one of our exterior doors and i'd be bringing it with me.
and for the record - i absolutely love dogs, but not if it attacks someone

I finally stopped running on Nose Hill in 2021 after doing so for more than 30 years. I got so sick and tired of being accosted by off leash dogs in on leash only areas (all the pathways) and then having to deal with their ####ing idiot owners. Nose Hill has become an enormous cesspool for poorly behaved dogs and they're incorrigible owners. The resident Coyote population on Nose Hill set the benchmark for model canine behaviour, seen hundreds over the years and never had a single problem. Domesticated dogs on the other hand...

Last time I was up there I counted 19 of 20...breaking the rules. I presume the one on leash was blind.

It had gotten so bad, I just gave up. Such a shame as it's a splendid space within our city. The city installed all the new bollards along paths in 2019-20 to the tune of $50K noting the 'off leash' areas, dog owners just ignore them, what a laughable waste. There is literally no enforcement in the park either. I have had to defend myself from oncoming dogs countless times, only to have their owner approach and tell me 'they're friendly', #### YOU! Animal Services told me that Nose Hill Park elicits the most dog complaints in north Calgary every year, yet nothing is done in terms of meaningful enforcement. I get it's a big park and there is limited resources, but more can/and should be done. Throw some officers on Mountain Bikes incognito and have conversations with those breaking the law and blast out fines.

Oh, I've ranted about those bull#### signs before.
Spoiler!
First off, that arrow is so ####ing small that everyone just sees the green sign and thinks they are in the off leash area. If you can't make it out, it's the little tiny thing by the dog's poop distributor.
Second, they are right next to the path, telling everyone on the path they are A-OK to have their dog off the leash, which they are 100% not.
Third, people are ####ing idiots. You can't tell them what they can do without also telling them what they can't do, which is why it needs some indication pointing to the path direction that dogs must be on leash.
Really, everything the city has ever done on Nose Hill has made it worse. Like the washed out gravel paths with foot deep cuts, but I won't go into that rant...

I think I've told this story before. A few years ago I had to run across the street and help get two pit bulls off a golden retriever. I swear we all have ptsd from it.

At risk of sounding like I think I'm I'm some sort of tough guy, which I'm not, I will too. My wife was attacked by a dog. If it was a small kid in her place, it would have been bad. I now carry a 'walking stick' and usually have a knife in my pocket when going past this person's place. I've also told him if his dog gets anywhere me, my family or my dog, I'll be swinging for the fences.
