While the Leafs are famous for Robidas island, a buyout doesn't give Murray a "small percentage." It gives him 2/3 or his pay, and if he wants to keep playing, he would surely take that rather than not play for an entire season, which at his age, would pretty much end his career. And right now he is health - he was a healthy scratch in the playoffs.

I don’t know. Have the Leafs signed a deal that’s more than 1 year? Treliving signed a lot of bad contracts as GM of the Flames, but he seems like he’s doing fine as GM of the Leafs so far?

Treliving only give multi-year contract to over the hill players.

Oh, true. I forgot about that one, and that one is awful. I was very happy Treliving wasn’t GM of the Flames when he signed that one.

Domi is a good move for the third line. At $2.5M it's a no brainer. But Leafs still haven't addressed the sheer loss of bodies, in addition to getting skilled grit. Summer just started but Treliving must have something in the works, trade wise to eat through cap space without addressing the two elephants in the room - resigning star players while bringing in skilled grit.

I have seen Kypreos say Toronto wants a 1 year deal around $2.5 mil, but not one legit member of the media has said the deal is done.

Pretty sure Domi could get more than that somewhere else. Undoubtedly by now he would prefer more than one year, too.

I'd call that bluff and tell them to go ahead and buy me out. Unless I'm mistaken escrow doesn't apply to buyouts. Right now Murray is set to make 8M in salary this year, after escrow that would be what? 6.5-7M? something like that. If they buy him out he gets 5.333M over 2 years and he becomes a free agent, pretty sure he would get signed by someone, he might even come out ahead. It's certainly not a "small percentage" and it's not even close to losing 4M.

2/3 of $8M is 5.33M. Murray is only 29, but he may not make up that 2.66M. A full year off may actually give him the best odds of getting back to something resembling normal health.

Dude hurts himself on the most innocuous plays. Keep the guaranteed almost 3 mill (for some reason I thought they lost half when bought out) and try for a contract next year. If he demands to be bought out the Leafs eat the 666,000 for this year. It's doable.
