Wasn't there a Mythbusters episode about punching a shark in the gills?

I just can't remember if it was busted or confirmed. I know they confirmed that punching them in the snout chased them away.

Sharks are also sometimes too dumb to know when they're receiving damage if you could inflict any in the first place. I mean they taste first with their teeth to see if it's edible against something they want to destroy, no chance! Polar bear? largest land carnivore also not a good bet cause all of their vulnerable areas are protected and they could stand up and it's good night! Ever seen an elephant rampage, that's a killer instinct, they have killed humans too. I mean frickin hippos have killed hundreds in Africa. A lion face on, you might deke out and be able to leap on their back and choke, you could kick him in the ribs etc. if he lept, what do you think would happen to an elly if you kicked it?!
You might be able to bluff a lion a bit too, pump yourself up and stare at it head on, it might not think it's as tough as it is and may hesitate.
My thoughts
Oh and a big snake I think i could take out, coyote, wolf (alone), horse if you can trip it, cheetah maybe.

I think all of those animals would kill you rather quickly. Elephants are very aggressive when confronted. The other 3 all have very very big teeth....

I'd go with the lion.. if I'm going to be taken out by a large animal I want it to be kick ass. I figure that kitties like me too.. So I'd last a while.

I would use the mata leo (lion killer) choke from BJJ and take that lion out!

There was a news story about a man who killed Cougar or Mountain Lion with his bare hands. I think that's the most you could hope for without tools or weapons. If hunger was not a factor. Maybe you could wait 20 years until your hair grew long enough that you could knit a net out of it, or a lasso and strangle the beast...or stuff it in it's mouth so it couldn't eat you. Either that or collect all your dead skin into a pile and throw it into it's eyes.

You just have to channel MacGyver and believe you are Captain Kirk.

Rhino - those bastids are about the same size as a Hippo (maybe a bit smaller)...but they have that big horn that could mess you right up.

I've thought about this kind of thing before, but I think the likeliest animal that you would ever actually have to fight (whether to the death or not) is a dog or wolf. Dog's are all over the place, and if a pitbull broke out of it's fence and came at you... well, I think that's more likely than Shark, Polar Bear, or Elephant.

I've always been convinced that a properly motivated human, knowing it's life or death, could probably take out a dog. Once it latches onto a part of you, you could use your other 2/3 limbs to just bludgeon the hell out of it.

Oh... and one thing I think is important is to protect your throat at all costs

I say elephant. I'd rather be stomped and smothered quickly as opposed to torn limb from limb and eaten for lunch.

Also, death by elephant isn't nearly as gruesome so the footage might even make the news. I've always wanted to be on the news.

funny thread.

Realistically I don't think that a human could kill any of those with thier bare hands. You would have to hope they would trip chaising you and land on a sharp stick or something (for the shark maybe bite it's own tail)

Replace the elephant with a moose.

Would that change your decisions?

No matter what animal I faced in the death match I would bank on them being so offended by the odor that resulted from me soiling myself that they would give up and leave.

I would. Those things are huge, add in the antlers, plus I think they are pretty aggressive. No way it would be easier than an elephant, you'd be finished, and it would be a lot uglier than getting killed by an elephant.

Dion Phaneuf would take on all 3, and a pack of fifty 5 year olds.

Couldn't you stand on the ledge of the aquarium and elbow/leg drop the shark as it swam by?

Or submarine the mofo (jumping feet first on to its back)?

Correct. We all know Dion doesn't sleep.....he waits. Therefore exhaustion is a non factor.

Man kills adult deer with bare hands, a moose might be possible. More realistic than a lion at the least.

I read somewhere that that if a shark was ever to attack you your best defense is going for the eyes. It is the one part of the shark that is vulnerable, hence why they role them back and cover them when they attack. I would assume i good ole' three stooges polk could make that shark think twice.

That being said, a lion is what I would go with, hopefully could sneak my hands in there and go for his jugular (sp)
