"Or in Calgary when we were up against the defence of Denis Gauthier and Robyn Regehr. The first one got me with an elbow to the head as soon as I got close, and the second one played fairly, but once he got his hands on you, he shoved into the boards with incredible strength. That man destroyed my body like nobody else."
The tunnel of death.

I still wear my Regehr sweater ro every Flames game I go to. I also carry a silver sharpie hoping one day I will run into him and have him.sign the black C. Then I can retire that sweater.

Interesting site. Kinka like the Players Tribune but for Czech atheletes. I found one by Jiri Hrdina which was also an interesting read. Interesting to see that he thought the Flames traded him because they thought he was useless but years later they found out that the Pens wanted him so he could help Jagr find his way in NA. The Pens saw Hrdina get healthy scratched a couple games so they picked up the phone.
Yeah, I read Hrdina's piece too. Vinny Prospal and Pavel Brendl's as well. Interesting stuff. I never knew Hrdina simply decided to pack it in the way he did in 1992, just saying in essence "I've got three Cups in four years; this is as good as it'll get, I've accomplished all I set out to accomplish, I don't want to completely kill my body anymore, so... I'm done." What a champ.
Brendl's piece was fascinating insights into a player who, from the outside looking in, is still years later a bit delusional about himself. He was sourpussed about not being played in all situations, not being given 20 minutes of ice time a night. Like... no #### dude, you were a sieve on defence. I remember when he played for the Hitmen he'd park himself at the red line, waiting for outlet passes. One of the most blatant cherry-pickers I have ever witnessed. By his own admission at least he acknowledges that he was essentially "uncoachable", and never understood why coaches wouldn't just "let him play his game".

I can't think of Hemsky and not think of that cringey rap song some indie rapper in Edmonton made about him. It's peak Edmonton.
Edit: I took the song down. After listening to again years after it was made, I am starting to thing the person who made it might have special needs, so I feel kind of bad. I am not really sure, but best not to make fun just in case.

One thing about it is Hemsky was never scared. He never stopped trying.
Hemsky was always like 'great a breakout pass, I've got Regehr covering me but I bet I can beat him wide'. And then he'd just get killed.
And then 10 shifts later he'd be like 'great a breakout pass, I've got Regehr covering me but I bet I can beat him wide'. And he'd just get killed again. Once every blue moon dude slipped through, and while that often lead to goals (assists for Hemsky) those moments were certainly few and far between.
I never thought he was soft anywhere but the head. Why would anyone ask for so much punishment. Also, Regehr was a gift and I'd love to see someone pick up where he left off.
Why can't we have regehr now to handle the two wimps
They'd tap out after one of those hits
The league is so gd soft now
This and smaller goalie pads are responsible for inflated point totals. Stars don't have that visceral fear skating along the boards and it's a goddamn shame

I think McDavid at least is way harder to trap into the tunnel than Hemsky. and Draisaitl is more solid. He'd get caught by Reg but he'd be more likley to either absorb and retain the puck or at least get a better pass off.
I was stoked when we got Regehr, and then the accident happened and I was worried he’d never play. His come back said lots about him. Amazing mentality and he was a rare physical specimen.
Those were some lean times, but we got some real beauties.
Given how little Feaster got, we should have let him retire here. Just like Iggy.
I feel sorry for Hemsky, I didn't like him mainly because he was an Oilers, but I didn't truly hate him like I'm hating McDiver and Pissy. I wish we have a Regehr type that will crush McDiver destroy his body like Hemsky.
Lifetime suspension though, we wouldn't have him long
