It's not like the guys that are worth something are UFA's this year anyway. If Treliving thinks he can get a better value at the draft or in the summer, I'm cool with that. He's done some good work on draft day before

I think the market will be different, but not necessarily worse, for those guys. Less desperation, but more buyers.

It will be pretty interesting to see us be literally the only team in the league to do nothing. If that doesn't show worrying signs then I don't know what will. Every other team made efforts to either compete or bolster the rebuild. The flames are still stuck in neutral.

Sometimes doing nothing is the right approach.

Lol. Everyone trades except the Flames. Why? Because everyone knows the Flames are garbage and they don’t want to mess with their chemistry by bringing in mentally fragile players

Sure, if the goal is to remain mired in mediocrity.

Sometimes maybe. Consistently? I would say that the results do not bear out your conclusion.

There is no reason we should not trade Lewis or Stone, there should be a team wanting them, get whatever you can for them. Especially trading Lewis, it opens up a spot on the forwards to get some games for Wranglers players

Calgary and Florida will swap 6th round picks at the buzzer.

If that's how it plays out...it kind of fits with how this team does business. They've got a stubborn coach, a seemingly stubborn general manager - with both likely taking direction from a stubborn owner...so ride or die, they believe they're right even in the face of failure.

If nothing else I guess they should be commended for their conviction. It's not a good way of doing business if you actually care about building a Championship team, but they're committed to it and they believe they're right.

Unwavering devotion to a flawed approach.

Not really sure what consistently refers to. Are you suggesting Tre consistently doesn't have a track record of making big trades or deadline deals?

Since when do the Flames consistently do nothing? Last couple seasons they added, big time. Off season, mostly, but I consider Toffoli a trade deadline deal.

Maybe no one wants to be schooled by Tre so they don't even bother calling the Flames.

Can everyone try to keep this thread clean for only deals? lets keep all general comments discussions to the 2022/2023 speculation thread. We have 2 threads going that are heading down the same convoluted path.

I’m working so haven’t watched the deadline coverage on tv, but with so few trades don’t they must be micro analyzing everything to the 100th degree. Must make for some terrible viewing to see Sam Consintino’s grin and over enthusiasm for 7 hours straight.

It's kind of weird - I'm not sure how posters can want the flames to trade a core piece and then retool for next season. Trading Lindholm or Backlund will not make the flames better either this season or next. It's not a realistic option.

Three seasons out, when futures might help us, Huberdeau and Kadri will be on a hard decline of post apex.

The realistic options are tear it down or stay the course for another season. There's really no in between

Trying to move those guys now to teams who are up against the cap you will need to find a way to balance the money. It's one thing to eat half a salary when 80% or in a lot of cases more has already been paid and you're out 200k or less. But 50% on the better players is another thing. Teams buying at the deadline have a better idea of what the picks they're parting with are worth whereas at the draft sometimes teams can get eager. But these days GM's ard conditioning picks to the hilt. So I doubt we see a Stutzle or Dobson calibre pick ever moved again unwillingly.
