He hasn’t done a positive thing on the ice all season

Also taking subtle (not so subtle) jabs at the guy who just signed an 80 million dollar extension here in the media is the definition of mind games
How are those "mind games"?

Perhaps questionable coaching tactics. But "mind games"?

Perhaps we don't grasp what you think mind games are.

Swap Coleman and Lewis and I think they got it.

Looks to me like Sutter wanted to sit Rooney for being terrible and try Dube at centre. Didn't want to leave Dube with Lucic and Ritchie so he put Coleman with Dube. Probably wants to try Huberdeau with Backlund after he didn't really gel with Kadri in those few games they played together. I'm not seeing many kind games in those decisions. More like coaching decisions.

People are motivated in one of two ways.

Positive and /or negative energy.

Top leaders are not afraid to employ either one.

Yeah
“Mind games” infers some type of misrepresentation of the obvious
With this team so far this year, there isn’t much “obvious”
I think he’s still trying to find the right pairs

Sure, you can call them questionable coaching tactics

I think at this point elevating Lucic, who was benched as a fourth liner recently, to top 6 and powerplay is beyond questionable though

And saying your star player had to “take a ####” when he was playing through an injury… you would call that coaching?

But it’s still a clear sign he wants to play that fourth line 10+ minutes. This leaves the top lines at not very high ice time. I wish he’d just accept the fourth line is a 7 minute per night energy line and focus his offensive players in the top 3 lines. Instead he is just spreading the suck around. I do disagree that Lucic hasn’t done anything good this year but it’s also clear he doesn’t have the speed/game to keep up with top players.

I don't really care much about the quote. Sutter trolls the media all the time.
I think Lucic is playing too much. I disagree with how the coach is doing that.
Doesn't mean I'm assuming poor intent on his part though. That's the mental leap I don't get.

How about Ruzicka! Healthy scratch to first line and PP2. Super happy he’s in the rotation with Rooney sitting.

As much as we laugh at Edmonton for being an outlier in playing their stars ridiculous minutes we are the outlier in the opposite direction where we just don’t want to play our stars over 15-18 minutes. It’s clear from some comments by Tkachuk that this doesn’t rub some stars the right way. I mean it’s not a shock that Sutter falls in love with these “play the right way” guys but not if those guys are just incapable of affecting the scoreboard positively. I think Lewis is fine and a fringe third liner or good fourth liner but Ritchie, Rooney and Lucic need to be buried.

He was mocking the media for expecting him to comment on a player’s injury. It had nothing to do with the player.

I thought it was a mandatory for Flames players to wear shot blockers? Guess that changed.

They tried to, but the PA objected. You can't make equipment mandatory unless the PA and league approve it.

I think this deserves its own thread because what he said to the media was either moronic or really moronic

1. I think he was being dismissive of Huberdeau’s injury

2. Even if he was simply trying to get the media to leave the injury alone it was even dumber. The story went viral, it was covered in the NY Post, drew way more attention to the injury than anything else would have, and according to a reputable source did not go over well with the players

So either way it was a dumb move on his part
