Bear is a decent addition for a 5th. $1.8 mil salary and an RFA who has decent advanced stats. IMO the Canucks took advantage of a team looking to shed cap.
This is ok for Carolina as they probably don't need him and needed the cap relief but hard to say this isn't worth it for Vancouver

This should help them claw back into the race. Could maybe use another grizzled veteran on the roster though, bearing in mind the salary cap.

Polar opposite of the direction they need to go IMO.

Not a bad deal at a low price for the Canucks. Oilers fans hyper Bear up a few years ago like he was going to be better than Rasmus Andersson. We know how that turned out.

Good trade. Bear isn't going to change the Nucks' D, but he is a warm body, which will help.
For CAR, they now have $8.6M in cap space. They are in unbelievably great shape. And I would guess the reason they did this is that they are looking at going after someone.

Uh, don't you remember how Bear was single-handedly responsible for ending the Oilers' season that year where they lost the closest first round sweep in NHL history?
McDavid glared at him and that was the end of Bear's time with the Oilers. What they got in return didn't matter.

Doesn't this just give them wiggle room to bring Pacioretty off of LTIR? Not nothing, but I don't think they can really add.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

With this and studnicka, Vancouver is a better team today than they were yesterday. There is upside with both players (to be steady nhlers not top 9 top 4) and they might help in the room, where the Canucks seem weak.

In all seriousness this is a meaningless move by an irrelevant franchise.

Pacioretty or Jake Gardiner, but not both.
Anybody know the status of those two offhand?
