The only thing that could make this offseason worse is if the Flames sign Ben Chiarot to a long term contract. I am very worried that with Gaudreau gone that Treliving will talk himself into overpaying this guy who is quite frankly a bad defenseman.

I’m thinking Burakovsky is the main target. Probably 6x6. He’s from Malmo, SWE. I think we know a couple guys from there… plus not to mention the other Swedes. Lindy must be feeling a bit better about his chance to sign long term here as well too. The opportunity is here for Andre with Johnny gone.

Yeah, Burakovsky and I bet they go after Josh Manson as well.

What has he done over his career to warrant that money and term? He's been consistently a 15 goal, 35 point player for most of his career. He had a good season this year but as with Kadri he got a career season bump playing on a stacked team.

Yup. Every single bad player in the NHL gets signed by the Flames to an absurd overpayment, because that's the only thing Brad Treliving knows how to do.

He has played at 60-70 point pace the last three years in Colorado. Still only 27, and fits the Swedish locker room we have. Not the worst option out of the list, if the Flames want to get anybody
I personally wouldn’t mind Giroux, if they stil want to compete. Still productive and can serve the role as a top line player. Not young, so won’t need a long term contract either.

If the Flames dive into the UFA pool tomorrow, I hope they surface with only 1 year "show me" contracts, putting them in a position to sell like crazy before the trade deadline and then enter the draft with picks and a boatload of cap space.

Re: the predictions post above ...
I wouldn't be surprised to see Nic Deslauriers get a crazy contract somewhere from a team looking for grit.
I also highly doubt Phil Kessel doesn't get signed.

7. Vincent Trocheck (CAR)
8. Ondrej Palat (TB)
9. David Perron (STL)
Any of those 3 would be great for Calgary on a 2 year deal (maybe 4/5 for Trochek)

Don't be shocked if Lazar and Stecher end up Canucks tomorrow.

I'd be going for Kubalik as a cheaper play.

I think PK Subban to the Sabres on a cheap-ish deal to play with his brother

There are some interesting “value” names here
Kubalik
Mikheyev
Milano
Domi
Lindblom
Jarnkrok
Kase
I wouldn’t mind seeing any of those guys added tomorrow on shorter term deals.
Just Stay away from longer term and big money deals for Kadri, Kane, Chiarot, or Palat though please.

Could Sam Steel or.Sonny Milano be in the eyes for a rebound contract playing for Darryl?

I hope the Flames sign younger guys for cheaper price or useful players for short 1 or 2 year deal and trade them for draft picks at the trade deadline.
No need to invest for Okay players for long term deals.

I'm hoping for Mason Marchment, and I'm sure the Flames will be all over him too. Darryl coached his father for 6 years in SJ, and signed him for his final season in CGY. If Brett Howden actually goes to market, I could see Tre going for him too-he's a Calgary kid. I also really like Burakovsky, and we might have an inside track there, too.

150 points in his last 191 games while averaging 0.75-0.83 PPG in each of his last three seasons.
Burakovsky is 27 and entering his prime. If the Flames are overpaying anyone this off-season, it might as well be someone that oozes skill and is on the upswing
