he was an un-signed RFA when traded to the Sens; salary retention wasn't possible

Murray is a much better goalie, he just breaks easily. If the Leafs get him at 50% retained the can still grab a guy like Kuemper and tandem them.

They aren't getting Kuemper. This is it. Harsh reality for Leafs fans.

Murray has great reflexes, but is positionally one of the worst goalies in the league. He gets way out of position then makes saves look difficult that should have been simple. It wows fans sometimes, but then you have to wonder after, why that even had to happen.

Hasn't Matt Murray's play fallen off a cliff the last few years?

Weird move for a contender to make IMO

Are they letting Campbell go because he's going to be too expensive? I can't see any other reason to bring in Murray over keeping Campbell.
This seems crazy.

Drops 13 spots in draft to rid of Mrazek

Wants to acquire Murray and pay the same $’s as what Campbell wants in FA

… what are we missing here?

Murray will be much, much cheaper than Campbell.

They most likely will get spend picks to get Ottawa to eat salary.

I don't understand this move at all. Andersen is a far superior goaltender and Campbell is better yet neither were good enough for the Leafs but this guy is? He hasn't posted a decent SV% since the 2018/19 season. Leafs have to win now while they have Matthews.

Less term for sure, but Campbell will probably come in around 5M compared to MM's $4,687,500 after retention

I guess it depends on what team you cheer for. If you are a Leafs fan you should probably open the liquor cabinet and start pouring.

They might as well have stuck with Campbell if this was the alternative.
