I've had many an interaction with the ol' Potlicker. He truly was one of a kind.
A heckuva lot of fun, and very, very kind.

RIP Bearcat

At the age of 89... seems like an appropriate age for a member of the championship team.

He was a face of the franchise. A trainer. What an amazing impact he had.

i recall watching a BoA back in the good old days. Messier had delivered an elbow to a flames player - Pepper - i think. It seemed like Bearcat was over the boards to catch the player before he hit the ice.......

Legend. RIP

Quote:
Along with the relocated Blazers franchise came the need for a new crest, and the cartoon-like cowboy-hat logo was born …

With Bearcat, once again, right in the middle of things.

“Loved the crest,” Murray said. “(Head coach) Joe Crozier came to me and said, ‘We better do something about a crest. I said, ‘Just look at the logo on our stationary and just take the hat. Take the rest of it away and just use the hat.’ So that’s what they did.

“Great logo.”

The world is a poorer place for not having more characters like Bearcat.

In honour of "Bearcat" I'll just post this image of an actual bearcat (AKA Binturong).

Bye "Bearcat", we'll miss you.

The incident caught the attention of a group of fans in Boston, who formed the "Bearcat Murray Fan Club", and began showing up at the Boston Garden wearing skull caps and oversized moustaches mimicking Murray's looks when the Flames played there.

You look back at some of those moments from the 80's he's right there celebrating with the coaches and players on the bench it is awesome! To name a few the Joel Otto goal, the Game 7 victory in 1986 vs Oilers, advancing to the Stanley Cup in 86 beating St Louis, the Terry Crisp kiss over the glass Game 4 vs Chicago in 1989 (to not his wife, ha ha) and of course the Stanley Cup. He was the constant. If you have read the Battle of Alberta book by Mark Spector there is a really cool story in their about a typical Edmonton vs Calgary game, players were injured and trainers were attending to them. It's been awhile since I read the book but I believe Kevin Lowe (helmetless days) got his bell rung and no trainers from the Oilers were around because they were tending to others. Bearcat hopped on the ice to help out. He then proceeded to nicely give Lowe a tip about how Lowe was newly married, had a newborn and how he should take care of himself now for himself and his family and wear a helmet. Lowe started to shortly after and many many years later brought it up with Bearcat at an event thanking him for the sage advice. RIP Bearcat, absolute classic in Flames history. That moustache, energy and smile will never be forgotten.

A nice man. I went to a hockey school in High River that he was involved in when I was 16. He was in better shape than most of us teenagers.
